If tweet fails to load, click here. quote:
Brian Kilmeade: President Trump and Laura Ingraham clashed on H-1B visas… Where do you stand Mr. Secretary?
Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent: “So I think the president's vision here is to bring in overseas workers where these jobs went, who have the skills, 3, 5, 7 years to train the U.S. workers. Then they can go home, and the U.S. workers fully take over.”
Brian Kilmeade: “Do you understand that concern some people have? ‘Hey, an American could get a job.’ Why are you giving it to [a foreigner]?”
Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent: “But Americans can't have jobs with specific skill, because we haven't built ships in the U.S. for years. We haven't built semiconductors. This idea of overseas partners coming in again, teaching American workers, then return home. That's a home run.”
That would take trusting Vance to enforce sending them back home

Bessent has some oceanfront property in New Delhi to sell you

If it works that way, fine... but will it? Where's the guarantee on that?
Posted on 11/12/25 at 11:33 am to hawgfaninc
h1B's dont train shite and are permanent fixtures. NEXT.
Posted on 11/12/25 at 11:33 am to hawgfaninc
Doesn't it usually go the opposite way? They get the Americans to train the H-1B then fire the American?

So we're bringing in Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese and South Koreans, only right?

If that were true why would tech firms be gutting jobs while importing Indians?
Posted on 11/12/25 at 11:34 am to hawgfaninc
We should charge these companies $500k per visa. That will show if their H1B candidates are truly exceptional or if the business is looking for cheap labor.

We graduate around a quarter million engineering students a year with 15,000 or so of those being doctoral graduates.
If we truly need to import Indians to train Americans we are fricked.

Making fun of Bessent's silliness isn't "melting"
What he's saying is stupid and makes no sense, as multiple people ITT have pointed out.

I don’t know how Bessent can say that with a straight face. I’m in the tech field and was laid off for almost 6 months because everyone would rather hire a cheap Indian.
WE train them and they stay on for cheap. Those jobs don’t go to Americans.

The questions we need to ask are why foreigners can make a living here at half the wages Americans demand.
Either our system is broken, we are spoiled or both. Maybe we should fix the system; it would take care of itself.

Good grief they’re doubling down and think we’re stupid.

The H1Bs that people who want change are discussing aren't the people Bessent is discussing. He's being intentionally dishonest for the "You have to interpret what Trump says" crowd.
