1) explain the press releases etc announcing his termination
2) why is he not coaching the team?
3) why do we have an interim?
Despite what they may think, the people who run LSU / the state are NOT the smartest people in the room, no matter what room they are in..

He’s coaching the team same as he has past 2 years

Not sure what you are trying to prove. We know that LSU hasn’t formally fired BK because they are looking for a reason to fire him for cause.

Maybe he was relieved of his duties. And not officially fired.

the decision has been made pending formal board approval

A judge may well find that they have. Or that through what they have said / done, LSU has actually breached the contract.

So until that happens… 1-3 should not have.
If this was the way lsu wanted to go, they should have suspended him and issued notice to intend to terminate for cause.
If you are terminating a contract for cause, you better have every duck in a row from the start.
Weeks later, lsu can’t even find the ducks, much less have them in a row.

Agreed. Are you just trying to say what LSU is doing is wrong? I think most people would agree with you

People are human and make mistakes
To me, this goes beyond that and is destroying the reputation of the university and the state.

No offense, but that's just naive.
It's not how coaches are hired at public universities either. They are "hired", "announced", and begin work before the contract situation is finalized.
This isn't new. It's how every coach is hired and fired.

He has been relieved of his duties, but his contract has not been officially terminated. LSU has been trying to negotiate those terms with Kelly, but Kelly is now acting like they never spoke about that.
It is common to have a separation agreement, particularly for a guy that makes $10M/year. Kelly thinks there was just a little “HR housekeeping” and that they would be in touch.

This is what I wonder about.
People yesterday were saying that BK wasn’t really fired because there was (allegedly) no formal written termination and that Woodward didn’t have authority to terminate him. And they were acting like that was some “gotcha” information that helped LSU.
If anything, it makes it seem like BK was terminated in a way that violated his contract and puts LSU in a very precarious legal position.

How is that?
I haven’t seen anything suggesting that they haven’t paid or are not planning on paying Kelly.

This may be true, but how someone is fired/terminated is a lot different than how they start the job. Especially when this much money is involved.
If the school is trying to avoid the buyout both parties agreed upon in the contract, they damn well better have everything locked tight when they fire him.

They were in active negotiations to make the ducks unnecessary, that doesn’t mean they aren’t there or in a row.
I’m offering this as a potential explanation. People need to forget the lawsuit, that’s just Kelly’s side of the story which LSU deserves a chance to respond to.

Well, you are changing the subject.
How someone is fired and what and how that happens is spelled out in the contract.
LSU doesn't want to pay this out over time. It wants to pay a lump sum now.
That should be an easy sell to Kelly, as long as both parties are reasonable.

It’s not the way UCLA, Penn State, Florida, Arkansas or Auburn fire coaches. We look ridiculous. This whole episode of LSU football has been comically bad. It’s moved from comically bad to embarrassing.

People who “run” things rarely are. And….smart people can’t run shite. It’s two totally different talents.

Take a step back. There was no formal termination document. They were in active negotiations that as per Kelly, was discussed during the termination meeting. LSU has made no comments on this, but has made several offers. This suggests they at least could have discussed that the termination document is pending settlement.
It’s not a “gotcha”, LSU had been negotiating, Kelly is the one that is trying to play the “gotcha” card by saying he wasn’t terminated, and I don’t have a paper that says with cause so it can’t be for cause.

That’s exactly my point.
The contract describes how the termination process works.
But….
BK and Woodward had a meeting and at the conclusion of that meeting BK was relieved of his duties, lost access to the facility after removing his personal items (allegedly) and there was a press conference announcing that BK was immediately relieved of his duties (i.e. fired).
I am not an employment attorney but if that process violated the contract’s terms that spelled out how the termination process works, that seems to be an LSU problem and helps BK’s side in many ways.
