I think this is a blatant attempt at vote buying. But if he did it the other way around there wouldn’t be anything leftover to handout. Tariffs don’t come anywhere near covering the annual deficit that we have.
Let’s be overly optimistic and say there is $300 billion collected in tariffs leftover for distribution. Divide that by 2,000 and you get 150,000. Is that 150,000 households or taxpayers? Either way that’s a lot smaller number than there are people in the lower/middle class tax brackets.
ETA: have a big typo there. Credit to March1st for catching it. But I’ll leave it up there for laughs.
