Went back to the 3rd page, didn't see this mentioned.

MD-11s aren't used for passenger airlines any longer, but they are used for freight. They make up about 4% of FedEx's fleet and ~9% of UPS'. Such groundings by model seem to last at least a month.

UPS' main hub in Louisville and FedEx's main hub in Memphis are both on the list for reduced flights due to the shutdown.

I'm guessing trucking and trains are going to be picking up some extra business until this all sorts out. Market is probably going to be fricked on Monday.

Oh nos!

My kid won’t get their 20 presents or me my 2 lb beef log for Christmas!

I would get 1 or 2 toys for Christmas when I grew up. Today’s kids have a toy store explosion under the tree.

In other words, people are so spoiled and weak nowadays.

I don’t think it was the FAA but the carriers out of an abundance of caution.

Problem is more likely the engine which is also on 767s and some other planes

Well if I'm FED Ex and UPS, I'd find a way to add that 4% and 9% cargo to other flights. Max out that cargo volume and weight. I'm no expert, but I can't see those cargo planes flying at 100% efficiency prior to the stoppage, but I don't know a thing.

ETA, Maybe cargo volume and weight isn't the issue, but timing of flights is the issue. If this is the case, I guess some packages may be on the next flight and overnight delivery becomes next day. Either way, they'll probably adjust pricing to discourage immediate delivery and encourage next day or 3 day delivery, if timing iss the issue.

Kids just need a football, BB gun, and bicycle anyway. Oh, and rocks, lots of rocks.

Biden never started that rail line across the Indian ocean. Maybe they can change it to Hawaii.

If UPS isn’t already shitting their pants over the investigation of the crash and possible maintenance reasons for it…they are now with approx 10 percent of their fleet grounded.

You didn’t just ground those planes, the pilots are with them. Unless they are also certified on their other jets as well.

Or…..buy locally. You can do it. May have to be creative, but you can do it.

It’s not that easy. Fed ex departing Memphis and UPS departing Louisville has a specific destination. There aren’t any stops and then a destination. It would make the packages for the destination incredibly late. Maybe for New York, Chicago, and LA (etc) only it could work with some logistics work, But packages for most of the country, and the world, are on one flight.
