Santorini is amazing.

Stay on the west side of the island in Oia. 3 nights is plenty.

Do a cooking class with this guy. You make amazing food paired with amazing wine. Did not do this with kids fwiw.

Cooking class in Santorini

The only thing I can tell you about Greece is that I am going there for the first time in April. I will be monitoring this thread for advice.

I believe Athens is so over maligned that it's now underrated

There’s a reason why Athens is treated that way

Because it’s kind of a total shithole

Worth going to though

Island of Paros is amazing. Naxos is probably better with kids.

They might like Hydra with no cars etc

I probably wouldn’t take kids there, seems more of a couples destination to me. If you have kids maybe stay on the east side, the “beach” side

I have only been to Corfu on an adult couples trip. Lots of flights there. Sarande, Albania is a short ferry ride away. (We went there first.) Here is what we did on Corfu --

Corfu Town tour, shopping, and dining
Theotaky Estates winery & olive olive oil tour/ tastings
White House dinner (The Durrells in Corfu-related)
Day cruise to Paxos and Antipaxos
Road trip to Kassiopi and Sidari

Athens around the Acropolis is pretty amazing, tons of sites and ruins in the city. Delphi is a fun day trip from Athens. Santorini is fun but beyond crowded, I did the hike from Fira to oia. Rhodes was incredible with the ancient walled city and tons of shopping and restaurants. Mykonos is the party town, like Santorini during the day then the clubs open at night and go until morning.

Did Santorini 15 years ago and 2 years ago. The tourism and cruise ship situation has ruined the quaint feel of that island. There are SO MANY PEOPLE during the day. I second better for couples. Pick one of the lesser known islands for a family trip. Not a whole lot to do for kids. The ruins in Athens are great. Found great food too.

I am going to Santorini on my trip. I am sorry to hear that my experience will be diminished by all of those pesky cruise ship passengers although I can’t complain too much because I will be on a cruise.

Nothing against cruisers. More about the size of the island, in relation to the amount of people getting off. You will see. My point was it used to be this very quaint spot that felt authentic. This time it seemed easier to find an Italian restaurant than an authentic Greek. The idyllic place of the past sold out. There are so many Greek islands, I wouldn’t settle for Santorini.

Hard to stress how crowded Santorini (oia at least) is. It’s like during Mardi Gras when the crowd as a whole moves, except here people are all trying to take these little alleyways to get to the cliffs to take pictures, then you have all the flowing dress people, at least they are entertaining to watch

We went to Athens and Santorini this September (with a few days in Cyprus in between). We used points in Santorini and got the fifth night free, which was plenty of time but we were glad we did. The hotel we were staying in was winding down operations for the season a week or two later. I cannot imagine how crowded that place is during high season.

Also did five days in Athens, which was also enough time. We rented a car one day and drove to Napfilo.

Greece was full of good food, good weather in early to mid September, and I enjoyed it immensely. The service workers were great and made the trip even better.
