Imagine Loomis is fired and you are the GM. Do you draft Mendoza or do you trade back and load up on picks to rebuild?

What do you do?

I'll need to make sure who went to Mendoza's birthday party first.

Depends on how the rest of Mendoza’s season and the pre-draft process goes. It also (primarily) depends on how Shough progresses the rest of the season.

He had a pretty good first career start, and showed some of that upside that Spencer didn’t have. Still a long way to go (odds still are not in his favor), but I do feel a little better about him.

So if Shough can show enough to the organization to say that he can be the guy…..then you definitely trade back (if you can) and get more picks.

In that case, I think you target edge rusher, and playmakers for the offense in this draft (primarily). Fill the rest of the needs in FA

Good take. I tend to lean more towards trading back and building the offensive line first if Shough is they QB you want to build around.

Also not sure why we didnt ever try to build around Taysom. Also not sure why we wouldnt trade away Rattler for picks if we know he isnt our long term solution.

I believe they see Rattler as a decent backup, which is pretty valuable. You are not likely to get pick compensation high enough for the value that they believe he brings as a decent backup (I tend to agree).

I NEVER believed that Rattler was a starter, but I do believe that he has value as a backup

Trade back, shore up the interior of the Oline, get a good blocking TE, draft a FB in late rounds or FA.

Best help for a young QB is a good running game.

Rounds 1 and 2 (assuming we get another pick in here) should be spent on best defensive players available and drafting a WR

I'd take Mendoza. 6'5" with 70%+ completion percentage playing against superior talent (compared to his team). it may not work out, but if it does you're set for a long time.

1) It’s too early to judge draft picks.

2) Taking a QB just because they are the top QB and you have the #1 pick is a good recipe to get you a Cam Ward, Kyler Murray, Mitch Trubisky, etc.

3) If there is a top guy or two in the draft and you have a top 3 type pick, you pick that player. If there isn’t a top guy in the draft, be prepared to not be able to trade back. This isn’t Madden.

We need help across the board. Take the BPA and start the rebuild.

I don’t want Mickey Loomis and Co selecting and first round DEs ever again. They have better luck picking them in rounds 3-7

If you’re able to get an offer like the Bears got from Carolina for Bryce Young, you take it.

If the Saints are picking #1, you’d need someone like the Jets or Browns, who have plenty of ammo to trade up, to fall in love with Mendoza. Best case scenario would be that Mendoza dominates the postseason, and pulls away from the rest of the QB options. Either you have a massive trade haul coming in, or have an easy decision to make with the pick, assuming the coaching staff isn’t sold on Shough by the end of the season.

Multiple trade downs in the draft would be the best way to jump start a rebuild, but you need the offers, and Loomis gonna Loomis.

I'd seriously consider drafting the top LT and moving Banks inside.

The IOL minus McCoy is terrible.

But really I'd draft the best pass rusher. We got a little while before we absolutely have to have a better QB. RN we just need someone to pilot the rebuild and take the pounding that come with that at the position.

With our history with the Jets and the 1st and 2nd rounders they have stocked I pray we are drafting ahead of them this year. A possible bounty awaits lol

It's wild that Shough was born in '99. Mendoza is a veteran college QB, and he was born in 2003.

We will suck in 2026 regardless of who we select

Keep rebuilding, roll Shough, and circle the 2027 draft as the one to get a real stud in the top 5

I think Banks is good as a LT. if we took Proctor, Fano or Mauigoa, I’d put them at RT and move Fuaga to LG.

I want us to look at Jake Slaughter or Connor Lew in the 2nd or 3rd round as an eventual McCoy replacement.

That being said, I really want to get the best pass rusher with our first pick. I’m tired of having zero pass rush.

Our coach is Moore. If he thinks Mendoza is the franchise type QB to build around you have to take him. We hired Moore we have to trust him to make that call.
