Amid a massive NBA gambling scandal, ESPN, one of the league’s top partners, is exiting its own betting arrangement.

On Thursday, Penn Entertainment and ESPN announced the early termination of U.S. online sports book ESPN Bet, effective Dec. 1, 2025. ESPN is pulling its name and marketing power from the partnership; ESPN Bet will be rebranded theScore Bet.

But will still advertise all over ESPN.

ESPN will still put the odds and O/U everywhere and will still have betting shows.

Isn’t this the same company that jumped from Barstool to ESPN and effectively let Dave gain full control again for like $1?

Yep, that's the same one. Sounds like a couple of bad investments for them.

Exactly. To their defense, they weren't advertising the Barstool app like the other big companies. I think they thought the name recognition with young people would pay off on its own. The move to ESPN made sense to me as they probably figured use would skyrocket just being able to use the name. Penn should have never allowed them an early out like this. No one is going to use ScoreBet.

I guess L'Auberge is going to have to remodel their sportsbook again

Yeah, same with Greektown Detroit. Barstool>ESPNBet>ScoreBet.

Agreed. Penn had what looked to be a sure hand and went all in. It’s hard to beat the house

The competition is pretty fierce and FanDuel/Draftkings/BetMGM dominate. I think Caesars spent like $2 billion on advertising just to try to get near them. I don't know if it has worked. I thought Penn did a smart thing by partnering with the worldwide leader. Now, they have nothing to distinguish their app.

I’m on the people’s side of the war against Disney, and enjoy sports gambling. My unit size is $10, so not a degenerate.

But I can’t blame ESPN here. ESPN does push sports betting hard, but adults making big money playing professional sports know better than to bet on their sport.

Only to be replaced with ESPN partnering with Draft Kings instead

That headline is pure .

The NBA scandal has nothing to do with it - if they were making more money with a bigger market share it would not be shuttering.

It's a first to market arena right now. Those guys were first and people just aren't going to switch until a new innovation happens.

Generally yes, but espn bet had recently been sending me pretty good promos after not using it for a month or two, make a bet, cash out, and forget about it for another month or so, rinse, repeat.

I guess the ScoreBet will drop some
Good promos once they launch the rebrand.
