I cannot imagine the boosters being OK with Ausberry

If I were one of them I would let them know there is no way I support the athletic department with someone like him as director. No.Way. If they are OK with it then shame on them all.

yeah I'm sure these big boosters that met with admin to determine the fate of Kelly were really blindsided by the AD hire. Come on now.

Whether you adjudge Verge as "good people" or not, he does not have qualifications to serve as the AD of one of the top ten athletic programs in the country. This job is not easy and it requires serious business acumen dealing with national heavyweights and fundraising ability. Being "one of us" will not cut it at this position.

Verge IS good people. Doesn’t mean I want him to have the keys to our whole Athletic Department. It was a lazy hire, and means the Little General will still have his fingers all up in LSU’s business.
Jimmy Carter would be a great neighbor. He was a terrible President.

Y’all are putting way more stock into what an AD does than what an AD actually does.

That’s only if you think one must be and AD somewhere else first. The dude had lots of experience.

So his decision to cover up the abuse makes him good people? Forgive me if I disagree. To a disinterested party, what he did displayed a serious flaw in his moral code. The report is very likely a pale description of what went on, but is itself damning. I guess people have inappropriate emotional attachment to the man and LSU athletics that obviates looking at the facts for what they are. I am not surprised.

What a cogent argument you offer.

Of course this matters as well, but not to those in charge.

The impression I always got was Verge was great at being an assistant. He played and could bridge that gap between admin and the teams. He could handle the day to day great while the AD did big picture etc.

Well, he failed miserably at this.

Because he covered up a crime. You get that?

Verge is perfect for them. He will hire whoever they tell him to hire.

I have an easier time believing they are ok with it than them not. I doubt they were kept in the dark about this and for as long as he's been in the department I'm sure most if not all are pretty familiar with him.
If enough of them had voiced their opinions that they weren't ok with it and were going to withhold their contributions if it happened, then I don't think this comes to fruition. But it has so I'd imagine most of them are fine with it. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the boosters specifically wanted him
