How did Louisiana elect Landry?

I don’t live in the state. Were there seriously no other conservative candidates that formed coherent sentences?
Electing this doofus has done more damage to the LSU program in the blink of an eye than anything else in the last 26 years.
Now we have his hand picked president who doesn’t know what interim means.
Was the other option a bucket of mop water? How did this happen? Help me understand.
LSU is screwed until this clown is gone.

He was the attorney general, had name recognition, and was endorsed by Trump. Pretty easy answer to this

There were two other good conservative candidates to choose from. The citizens opted for the guy bought and paid for by plaintiff attorneys.

If only we had a time machine to go back and make folks vote for one of those two.

We are a state full of absolute ignorant retarded assholes.

JBE did more damage to LSU in his term than any governor except maybe EWE with his budget cuts after oil crash

Only 36% of statewide registered voters casted a vote.

You’re overreacting. Landry is far from ideal. But to understand, you first have to understand the incredible damage his predecessor did to the state over the course of 8 years.

He is not a dumb governor. He graduated from Loyola University Law School. He can read the fine print, and he knows when LSU makes ridiculous contractual moves.

Louisiana is an overwhelmingly Conservative State and he was the Republican candidate with the highest name recognition.
I do remember my first impression being I liked him because he came out against John Bell constantly which I liked because JB lost me real early when he threatened LSU.
But once he became Governor I saw a pattern that I should have noticed from jump, his attacks on JB were largely publicity stunts to get his name in the headlines and were often bizarre, poorly thought out and executed attacks that even though I may have agreed with on some level he seemed to miss the mark awkwardly.
then as Governor he kept doing the same sorts of things....again and again, and it was/is so bad that in an overwhelmingly Republican state he's losing much of that base with his dumbfrickery...and he doesn't even seem cognizant of it. His playing political football has almost always made him look out of step and obtuse.
Repubs better runs someone against him in the primary or we'll end up with another Blanco.

How did Louisiana elect Landry?
No.
Kelly needed to get canned. And so did Woodward.
So his methods may have been bizarre, but the end result is ok with me.

He got the State GOP endorsement about a week after announcing his candidacy. Suffocated all others running against him in the primary.

Jeff Landry was the lesser of 2 evils. Shawn Wilson was the only Democrat running, he was endorsed by John Bel Edwards, and would have been Obama 2.0.

Ranked like 134th in the country.
I guess that’s an upgrade from where he spent the real meat of his law studies, which was southern university (ranked 195/195).

The "end result" may very well end up being a coach that is worse than Brian Kelly. This had very little to do with wanting to better LSU football and more to do with Landry wanting the spotlight on him.

It was a rigged election
The Louisiana Republican Party is corrupt. It’s run by a group of guys that have decent money and strong connections.
Once Landry got the Republican endorsement before some people bad even announced they were running, I knew the fix was in.
Most people will simply vote for whoever has the Republican Party endorsement.
