Why would LSU want to hire Saban?

He retired because he DOES / [DOES NOT] want to coach anymore. IF money was the issue or deal breaker, he would still be at Bama.
At 74, he doesn't have a great deal of time left.
There is a thing called the NIL now, Saban wont be as affective anymore. Times have changed.
I dont see any upside of Saban versus just a qualified HC candidates. If anything, he would be at the lower end of the list.
I would rather get a good HC that stays for 5-10 years versus a prove-it deal for 3 years to maybe win a NC.

If you did go that route you'd have a short term contract for him to rebuild the program and he would probably want to have a say in who his successor is. Maybe a head coach in waiting type of situation.

I don’t think he wants to coach again.
But…
Saban come back for 3 - 5 years, maybe get a Natty out of it; he grooms the OC or DC position to be the next personally selected HC like a Kirby Smart caliber to make LSU competitive for the next decade+

You speak as if Saban bringing 1 NC in the next 3 years would be a disappointment????
Even if Saban only stayed for 3 years and brought 1 NC, he would undoubtedly leave the program in better shape than it was after the firing of Miles, Orgeron, or Kelly.

His value is in reputation and the ability to “reset” the supporting personnel and the organization as a whole.
I would also bet that a long list of young up and coming coaches would line up to learn in the job. Dare I say….coach in waiting.

I go back and forth with it being a dumb idea. But there really is only one Saban. A Tiger doesn’t change his stripes, so if he came back to coaching, I assume he would still be like he always was, and the program would be headed back in the right direction.
Or, another way I think of it, is that if Saban can’t fix LSU, then no one can.

If Saban signed up to coach again you don’t think he would be legit?
He looks great for 74. I would take 4 years of Saban.
If Saban is your coach then your program is going to be committed heavily to him and NIL.

Exactly, now that NIL has been around for few years, he has been able to analyze it and will know how to use it for an advantage.

The problem is after year one, every recruit or transfer will wonder who the coaches will be a year or two later. You’d have to hire 2 coaches. Someone like Sheppard to be DC and named coach in waiting.

And it's not NIL that really changed the landscape. It's the transfer portal.

Because the legend was gone, and now he’d be back. Nearly every great player would want to get a taste of playing for him, and he’d have the money to pay them. Nearly every great coordinator/assistant would want to be one of his progeny, given the top names in the game are his progeny. The legendary name, record of success, and resources available would attract the best and brightest. Finally, the price LSU would pay for him, staff, and players would be dwarfed by the revenue generated by the stadium at full capacity —— and additional ticket price increases.

He literally said one of the main reasons he retired was because he couldn't get top coordinators to come work for him anymore because they wanted assurances on how long he'd continue to coach and he couldn't give it to them. How has that changed?

That was before he retired. Few can resist a second bite at the apple. If Bama had the choice to have him back right now, yall would jump all over it.
