We will NOT be hiring a named coach this time. The math does not add up.

Gov. Landry (who I think is the best Governor in the country) so eloquently put it....
Quote
And I totally agree with him. The best gov ever.
However, the problem can be seen from this chart:
Coaching Salaries
If you see that there are 32 coaches in the country with a salary > 7 Million. That is OK. We can probably cough up that much, even with Kelly & the staffs buyout.
But please see the "Buyout" column at the end. Only Belichick and Napier have a $20 million buyout. Not sure Napier or Belichick would be a upgrade over Kelly. The rest all have a median of $30 M in buyout.
If you are bringing them to LSU on a higher salary I cannot see agents and coaches agreeing to anything less than 1.5 -2 times that, considering that we are comfortable paying $52 million to Kelly. Why should the next coach be given less.
I cannot see the Gov. agreeing to that and like it or not its Gov. who will have the last say.
Now notice what Verge says
That means if you fail to make the playoffs every 2 years, you will be fired at LSU going forward.
Now any coach would do the following calculations:
Let us say the Big12 and the ACC get 2 teams in. 1 goes to a G5. 1 goes to ND. That leaves the Big10 and SEC with 3 slots, maybe 4 in a good year. It is easier to be top 2 in the Big12 and ACC or Top 3 in the Big10 than top 3 or even 4 in the SEC. The conference is stacked top to bottom.
The SEC has 8 blue bloods with national championships in the BCS era:
Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn.
TAMU has not won a title but they have unlimited NIL budget and will be a contender.
Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vandy, Missouri and MSU are no slouches in this era.
[1] WITHOUT A SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE BUYOUT NO ONE IS COMING HERE TO GET FIRED IF THEY MISS THE PLAYOFFS
[2] THE EXPECTATIONS ARE UNREALISTICALLY HIGH, THE NIL TOO LOW AND IF THERE IS NO FINANCIAL GUARANTEES THIS IS NOT HAPPENING.
[3] WE DO NOT HAVE A AD AT THE MOMENT. AD's and FRONT OFFICES ARE CRUCIAL IN THE NIL ERA IN FUND RAISING.
WE ARE GETTING A CUSA, AMERICAN TYPE COACH.
WITH A 9 GAME SEC SCHEDULE + CLEMSON + CUSA/AMERICAN TYPE COACH 6-6 WILL BE A GOOD SEASON.
quote:
"No, I can tell you right now Scott Woodward is not selecting the next coach. Hell, I'll let Donald Trump select it before I let him do it,"
"I can promise you, we are going to pick a coach and we're going to make sure that coach is successful and we're going to make sure he is compensated properly and we are going to put metrics on it, because I'm tired of rewarding failure in this country and then leaving the taxpayers to foot the bill," said Landry.

“We are not going to let this (football) program fail,” Ausberry said. “LSU has to be in the (College Football Playoff) every year in football. ... This big building here has to be successful if we’re going to be successful as an athletic department. It’s the measuring stick that we have here.”

Going to be awkward when they announce a coach with no name. We just call him Head Coach or?

You trying to set a downvote record

So tired of everyone thinking they are experts on this money. If you aren't contributing, then take a seat and STFU

Landry is a pathetic POS. As another poster already stated, I quit reading your post after that also. BTW, I don't live in LA anymore so I'm not that familiar with all his policies but for him to invoke Trump's name just for the sake of it, tells me he isn't the brightest bulb in the socket. And to involve himself in a university that doesn't even take taxpayer money says it all. He is a power hungry a-hole!

You know what I mean by "Named" coach.
Posted on 11/2/25 at 11:37 am to mike4lsu
Just hire Napier or Wilson and see what they can do. They would both be willing to be the head coach here for less than 1 million per year.

The coach will wear a mask and the intrigue of not knowing who he is will drive the Rant crazy. Well, crazier.

Imagine being so bad at your job that LSU tells you, here’s 53 million to get your shite and go.
That’s why Landry said what he said.
You cannot start contracts like that ever again.

Impressive to be this stupid in a single post

John Doe is comin’. I’m so enjoying all the foolishness here lately. The absolute assurance about the coaching search. By the same idiots who said there was no way Brian Kelly could be fired for at least a couple of years.

This is genuinely one of the worst posts of all time.
From “the gubna will have the last word!” To saying there are 8 blue bloods in the SEC.
Just take a lap man.

He will come from the place in the U2 song where the streets also have no name.
