I have an area in my yard that has this grass that has these longer fronds I'm trying to identify.

Sorry to tell you this but looks sorta like torpedo grass. Are the blades very matte instead of shiny? Looks like it.

Definitely a mess but the second picture is not torpedo. Kill it all and start over

Nah, doesn’t look like torpedo. Torpedo would also be a darker green.

The “fronds” are seedheads, and though the top photo of the seedheads is blurry I think I can make out some “Y” shaped seedheads. If so, then it would be bahiagrass. Just Google bahiagrass seedheads and see if that what you have. If so bahiagrass can be controlled with MSM Turf (metsulfuron methyl).

Download Pl@ntnet app. Its free. Follow instructions. It will identify your grass (also for free). It’s as simple as snapping a picture with your phone.

Looks like Bahia to me. It grows a bit like centipede with really busy stolons that kind of arch forward and fo up.
If I see it correctly, the seed heads are the big black Y’s, which would confirm it.
Not the worst grass, but the seed heads are basically weeds. It can be out competed with better varieties if you keep it cut short without chemicals (would need to transplant, seed, etc)

This is what my identifier app says.

Looks like carpetgrass. Hard to tell because the image of the seed head is not real clear, but the rest of the plant looks like it.

This is my issue. It grows fast and hangs over the edge.

Looks fine when maintained.

Yep…I had a pasture of Bahaia that I mowed with my lawnmower….10 years later all of the bahaia has been choked out by st Augustine from my yard.
