All these commercials to help you manage your subscription services

How in the hell do you not know if you have 20 subs coming our of your account or you are spending over $200 dollars a month. Do people really not look at the transactions in their accounts? I can't wrap my head around it.

Multiple credit cards or avenues of paying would be my guess.
Not everyone is diligent on watching every single expense.

I've had some slip by me that I forgot to cancel after the trial period but if you closely check your transactions you'll catch it
That being said someone fraudulently started a Spotify account using my card and I didn't know about it for 10 months. Spotify did refund me for all the transactions though.

They should bundle all the services together and call it something weird. Like “cable” or something. Might catch on.

I went through just this week once YoutubeTV had their dispute with ESPN to check my different subscriptions and found about $50-75/month I could save by cancelling or bundling different subscriptions. I did the same a little over a year ago and released we were double subscribed to things and saved probably close to $150/month.
I can easily see how if you aren’t managing your money down to the penny and don’t actively monitor it that these services can help a lot.

People are too lazy to go grocery shopping.
No wonder everyone is broke.

When was the last time anyone you knew looked at a bank statement? I get alerts on everything over $15, but most subscriptions are below that.
The "service" is that they're scraping your transaction data and selling your information to whomever will buy it to build ultra detailed profiles of your life. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Not having 5 CCs is a good start for people, I look at mine online once or twice a week online, it takes about 30 seconds. I keep minimal money in my checking accounts just in case and I don't own a CC. I have had my card cloned two or three times over the years.

You could save some effort by getting alerts to your phone when charges happen.
1 credit card with the same limit of 5 individual cards can be just as much a problem. It isn't the number owned rather the way they are used/abused.

I laugh every time those commercials come on. Any subscriptions you get on an app should be easily managed in your apple account. And if you have a bunch of subscriptions you are unaware of or whatever then you need more than a subscription service. And how are you not aware of when subscription payments are due? The subscription service can be avoided by... better management.

So you have an app.....

They're not talking about things you sign up for from the Apple App Store. It's for Lyft Pink, Peacock, Paramount+, AMC+, etc.

Ah the solution to every problem…that requires another subscription.
Sounds like the app industry is taking one from big pharma, you take pill A, then doc adds pill b, then pill c, etc. next thing you know you are carrying a brief case full of drugs. Then you find out that Pill A and Pill F shouldn’t be taken together. A good pharmacist or doctor should catch this but how many don’t.

I couldn’t imagine having a monthly bill I didn’t know about. Then again, I’m not the idiot these guys are marketing too. There’s a reason pawn shops and corner loan stores stay open.

Or even a single email address. Every subscription’s tied to an email address. How many burner addresses do people have that they don’t realize they’re double subscribed to Netflix?

I have about 10 email accounts that I use, but only two for things I order or subscribe to, one for important or official things like banking and one for the other stuff like subs and each is on a different platform one on gmail and one on yahoo.
The others are for things like gaming, job searches, and facebook which I only use when traveling so my family can keep up to date.

I need to do better at suspending some at times.

We keep 8-9 cards for recurring bills.... one charge per card per month. Then we each have a card for other household expenses. If the recurring cards change balances it's an instant indicator of something to look at. I'm sure it pisses off the CC companies as they auto-pay the balance every month, but it keeps active accounts on the credit score.

Okay! My bad, the only one that is managed through apple is Amazon prime. I could have swore Netflix was the same way.. Either way, I just look at my bank account and if there is ever an unwanted subscription I would know as soon as it is taken out of my account.

A lot of this is due to people stopping with paper bills and going fully online. If you get a paper bill, it's easy to see. If you set up autopay and don't bother with the bills you end up paying for crap you don't even know you are buying
