Colorado has sued the Trump administration over its decision to move the U.S. Space Command Headquarters out of the state.
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser argued this move from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama is “unconstitutional and unlawful.”
“The president could not have been clearer about his motivations for moving Space Command. He said Colorado’s mail-in voting system was a ‘big factor’ in his decision making,” Weiser said. “The Constitution does not permit the executive branch to punish or retaliate against states for lawfully exercising powers reserved for them, such as the power to regulate elections.”

Weiser is seeking a court order prohibiting the Trump administration from following through on moving the SPACECOM's permanent headquarters, which former President Joe Biden declared should be in Colorado in 2023. It also is asking the courts to declare that Trump’s alleged retaliation against Colorado is unconstitutional.
“If we don’t take a stand now against this unconstitutional and unlawful decision, Colorado and other states that use mail-in voting will face further pressure or punishment unless they give up their constitutional authority,” Weiser said.
quote:
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said he plans to fight Weiser’s lawsuit.
“This lawsuit is nothing more than a partisan attempt to overturn a lawful, evidence-based decision repeatedly validated by military experts, independent reviews, and congressional oversight,” Marshall said in a statement on Wednesday, the same day Colorado announced its lawsuit. “Alabama will vigorously defend this decision in court and is confident the law and facts are squarely on our side. If Colorado insists on fighting a political battle in federal court, Alabama will meet them there, and win.”

What do these idiots not understand, Trump is the Commander in Chief of the military and he has the final say as to what and where bases are.

What a waste of time and resources. This would be like suing musk for moving the head quarters of X. It’s laughable.

If this one was unconstitutional, then wasn't the last one?

Personally, I hope they win.

Most everyone knows the answer.

Most people in Colorado probably hate the space force just bc Trump made it too

If states could sue and prevent base and command movements no base would’ve ever been shutdown and no command ever transferred.
Can they file an injunction to tie it up in red tape in front of an obstructionist judge? Probably.
Can they stop it? No.

Need the COTUS provision that says a state is entitled to have any arm of the federal government headquartered within its borders. I’m not finding it.

Trump just needs to make a Kodak Hut size building and hang a spaceforce HQ sign on it. Have a phone inside that forwards all calls to Huntsville.

He's not arguing that the president doesn't have the authority. He's arguing that it's unconstitutional to do it in retaliation for the states political leanings.
I'd be interested to see which part of the constitution he thinks spells that out. I'm not aware of anything in there that considers the executives intent when making decisions. This should be dismissed relatively quickly.

They think they are justified by their actions by finding left wing judges who rubber stamp it

If the legislative branch allocates funds for the move, nothing else really matters.

The military is already funded. They can use the funds the way they want to.

Congress and the DOW actually decide that.

The reason it was put there was that the Air Force had placed a lot of infrastructure in Colorado Springs and even the Denver area over the last 60 -70 years. A lot of satellite activity being controlled there in conjunction with the USAF
Huntsville was always more of a NASA town and building rockets

~50,000 people are already employed on Redstone Arsenal, and the base already struggles to handle that amount. Space Force will eventually add around 30,000 more people to the mix. The infrastructure on base and in the surrounding area will struggle mightily to handle it. Folks better start lining up at the gates at 4 am.
