It definitely feels like some programs are going to be scrambling to make the most of what's left, especially with a lot of openings still out there. In a situation like this, some schools or programs might have to make concessions and take people who may not have been their first choice, while others could be in a stronger position to pick from the top talent. How confident is everyone in getting who they want?

I think some programs are better off re-investing in talent instead of firing their coach - auburn, Wisconsin. Lots of meat left on the bone at Wisconsin. They just don’t have very good players.

Places like FSU ought to just cut bait. They’ve tried to reset with norvell 2-3 times now

I like our chances of landing a good coach. May not be Lane but I think there is a decent pool of coaches (some at their Alma maters) that should be able to see what LSU can offer. I also think having an LSU all conference LB as an up and coming DC in the NFL at least makes it to where we have a high floor on a coach hire. Sheppard shouldn't be the first call but if we do get turned down I could think of a lot of worse hires than bringing him in.

I think this is true, but I don't think this is ALL about low quality coaches.

I think we are in the middle or backend of a generational shift in coaching. The Urbans, Sabans, even guys like Brian Kelly from the last generation are close to being done.

So we have this young, somewhat unproven group of coaches. Could be low quality due to NIL, recruiting schedules ect, but I think we're a year or two away from seeing the next great wave of college coaches. No clue who they will be tho.

Loaded question. Who I want is probably different than who others want. I would settle for Kiffin as a 4th or 5th choice. I want to go young.

Who are the stud coaches of today ? Meyer and Saban don't coach anymore. Using the word settle is gas lighting. Day is a decent coach but he couldn't win without OSU alums spend a butt load of jack to buy players. He isn't a top 5 coach. Give Drink and Day the exact same team and Drink blows him away.

That happens every year. And often times the teams that "settle" end up better off than those that won the press conference

Everybody expects to be over .500 or fire the coach, but all the records are still .500 cumulatively. This shite will go on forever.

Yeah he’s the only coach to win with good players.

He’s a good coach but “blows Day away” is ridiculous hyperbole. What exactly does that mean? If he was tOSU they would have won 7 straight championships? 0 losses?

decent? are you football ignorant? Do you know who he learned from and coached with?

played for a natty in 2020, shoulda been in another in 2022(urban woulda beat georgia with CJ stroud), and won it in 2024. but he is just decent?

go look up his record and get back with me.

What about it ? He was handed a 20 mil team. They got some of the best players in the portal. An absolute stud from Bama. Same at rb from Ole Miss. He isn't Meyer good. He isn't Saban good. He's decent.

Drink would have beaten Georgia with Day's roster. As I said, he's a decent coach. He isn't the worst or the best. He has some of the best donors in the land of college football.

Buying players through the portal, some of whom are the best at their position can make you look better than you are.
Could Day have won a nattie with Mauck at qb ?

The talk about LSU being a top 3 job was wishful thinking. It’s a good job, but not elite. When you see top coaches one by one saying they’re not interested, you have to realize that just because some dumb arse commentator stating something doesn’t make it so. LSU will have to settle for a coordinator or an unproven coach.

I don't know if settle if the correct term, but yes a reset of expectations. There aren't very many big name established coaches available that aren't already at their alma mater.
More looks at G6 and coordinators will be needed

Link? Your opinion =/= fact it’s just a speculation that can not be proven or disproven

He was winning at a pretty high level before NIL and the portal. I don’t see where Ohio State is paying an abnormally high amount for NIL, seems they are spending about what all competitors are paying.

That was a totally different era Ohio State won the year before with Craig Kretzel. The game completely changed even Saban eventually started building around elite QBs Tua / Young.

Day had a 20 mil roster at his disposal. Many coaches could have won with that roster. Not to mention he actually lost games.

According to this Ohio St was 2nd behind Texas who has a loss and just ahead of LSU. Merely spending money does not guarantee success (see also Mets, New York).

Every one loses games Ohio St has a loaded roster like they usually do, they do not have some historically loaded way better than everyone else type of roster. Obviously you have some grudge against Day so no point in furthering this discussion.

Just FTR, I love Drink, would be ecstatic if he came to LSU.

One thing I feel pretty confident in. UF will not hire a G5 coach this time. I still think it’s Drink’s Job to lose.
