Settle Down - This Is Bigger Than Just Football

Anyone can throw their name in the ring for the next Governor’s race. Hell, any one of you could’ve applied for LSU President, Athletic Director, or even Head Football Coach.
Settle down and let this play out. The overreaction is getting out of hand.
What I’m seeing is a lot of noise about LSU football, when the real issue is being ignored: the risk of another reckless contract that could cost Louisiana taxpayers millions. LSU is a state institution. If donors decide to pull back funding, guess who’s left holding the bag? Us.
This isn’t just about wins and losses. It’s about accountability, fiscal responsibility, and making sure we don’t end up paying for another buyout disaster.

If you think the donors can just decide they don't want to pay out an agreed upon contract signed by all parties and not get demolished in court you're as retarded as Landry

Oh stfu with this shite.
Please go look up the Capitol outlay bill and see all the bullshite our politicians waste taxpayer dollars on. Start with Jeff and work your way down. Ask him how his stay at the Ritz in Turks & Caicos was, that we paid for.

I was under the impression that the athletic department was self funded and didn’t use tax dollars. Maybe I’m wrong but maybe I’m not….

This is a weird stance for a governor that just signed a new deal to pay the Saints to play in New Orleans for another decade. That is actual tax payer money with no chance of boosters/donors paying it.

This responses and downvotes for this post is proving my point more an more. Selfishness towards LSU football and not looking at the big picture for what it's worth!

LSU's athletic department is one of the most profitable departments in all of college sports.
and there's this fun nugget people forget about
quote:
During difficult budget times for the university in the past, LSU’s athletic department has transferred money to the university. After Gov. Bobby Jindal slashed the state budget, the athletic department began making annual transfers.
The school received tens of millions of dollars from its sports programs from 2012-19, when athletic director Scott Woodward ended the practice shortly after he took the job.
“It’s something that’s very dangerous, when universities rely on recurring money, especially from an auxiliary like the athletic department,” Woodward told Tiger Rag in 2019. “So no, I think, while I will always support the university in some form or fashion, we can not sustain what we’re currently doing.”

How? The football coach is paid a very small amount of base salary by the State. The overwhelming majority of the money—and all of the buyout—is private funds.
This is such a stupid talking point. It’s a lie, but for some reason Landry just repeats it and the media plays along with it.

They don't want to accept reality.

It's a red meat populist talking point for the ill-informed. The ill-informed who will celebrate Landry for being a "champion of the taxpayers"

It's not like Woodward is throwing out contracts that outpace all other P5 programs. He's offered top dollar but it's in line with what other top coaches at other top programs are making. BK wasn't the highest paid coach. And how the BOS is escaping any criticism is interesting. They signed off on the contract. And I can't believe the whale level donor is not also giving the nod before a coach is hired and contract signed.
Landry was right. The guaranteed money in contracts is ridiculous and it needs to stop. But he still needs to butt out of the process.
While I wouldn't be mad if LSU hired Kiffin, Im beginning to think a young, rising star is the way to go ie Dillingham, Sheppard (yeah, I went there) or Schumann.

The schools can stop it at any time.
But when the fans/donors decide 34-14 (19-10) isn't good enough and want the coach replaced for some one better, the pool of people believed to be able to deliver that "better" is pretty small. That means the small pool holds all of the leverage in the negotiations. The guaranteed money is the result of basic supply and demand. It baffles me how many don't understand that very basic concept.

And if he can't deliver in two years the fans will want him fired and demand the "big name".
The irony is LSU DID exactly what the Governor is suggesting when it hired Orgeron. O's contract was very LSU friendly, and could have been even more friendly, because LSU was LITERALLY the only major conf. school willing to consider O for their HC job. The supply of coaches seen in the same light as O was high, the demand for them as an HC was low.
Even more crazy, the approach WORKED! LSU had one of the greatest seasons ever. Then O regressed back to the mean and the fans demanded another "big fish".
O is available. Hell, I bet he'd even take the same contract he was offered in 2016
