Like any good Louisiana story, this one features all the hallmarks: deep political feuds, sneaky backroom deals, colorful and eccentric personalities, and unexplainable and all-together ridiculous public theatrics.
quote:
The drama greatly impacts the candidate pool for a job that, most experts contend, is the best open gig in all of college football. At a time when alignment and resourcing is at its most important, LSU, suddenly, seems to be problematic in both areas. “They are turning a top-three job into a s***show,” says one agent who represents football coaches. “Does the governor know how damaging this is to their search?” asked another.
quote:
Woodward avoids many public appearances or press availabilities. Like any good Louisiana politician, he’d prefer to keep things quiet, work in the shadows, possibly even operate in the backroom of a backroom in a certain Baton Rouge seafood house. Years ago, on a visit to that very restaurant, this writer was introduced to “the place where the real deals get done,” the owner told us, as he pushed open a trap door built into the wall of the eatery’s backroom, revealing beyond it a cove with a television, mini kitchen and — wouldn’t you know it — a card table.

this story feels like a response from woodward.

So Woodward is in the mafia?

LSU's coaching search is in peril, its AD’s job is in doubt & it seems bound for court with Brian Kelly
None of this is true.
The search hasn't even gotten going. In peril?
The AD job isn't in doubt. Woodward is gone and they are going to identify the new AD once the new President gets voted in early next week. There's no "doubt" here.
And I haven't seen a peep about Kelly challenging LSU on the lump sum settlement. Where's he getting that info?
Dellenger being a drama queen.

You are correct the search hasn't formally began.
All of this is just fluff and Dellenger sees this as his opportunity to make a splash nationally.

LSU is his old beat, this was to be expected.

I mean is it wrong though?
That was a lot to sort through. It makes the Bama-Saban coaching search look reasonable and stable haha.

but any long-term agreement to pay the full $53 million has not been reached despite negotiations between Kelly’s representatives and LSU’s counsel.
This board assured me that $27 million was a done deal because LSU “claimed morals clauses”.

Dude is a useless tool for the AD who is a Miss State grad and used the will wade situation to parlay to a job at a dead media organization sports illustrated.
He is on the level of Dan Woken and the rest of that ilk

Hell, I’d let Donald Trump select him before I’d let him do it. The Board of Supervisors is going to come up with a committee and find us a coach.”
The latter part — that a search committee would be formed by the board — was news to the board’s chair, Scott Ballard, who, when told of the governor’s announcement during a local television interview on Wednesday night, said: “No, I didn’t know that.”
That’s probably because the creation of a search committee — little did the governor know — was already in process, led by Woodward and LSU deputy athletic director Verge Ausberry. The future of that committee is now unclear.
Crazy.

Was my first thought.
People keep acting like the LSU job completely changed after one press conference. The resources and fact that LSU will do whatever is needed to make sure its football program is success have not changed at all.

This is misleading. The reporter asked if the BOS would be leading the search and he said he didn’t know that. She didn’t say anything about a board approved committee leading the search.

To everyone who kept saying, “it would be more costly to keep Kelly than fire him”… how’s that feeling now?
For three short days, LSU had the entire sports world, media, former players, coaches, backing the firing. Then our “great” governor turned it into a circus, even landing on the Pat McAfee Show.
Now? Everyone’s laughing at LSU, and no elite coach is going to touch this job. Welcome to Auburn/Florida football hell, folks.
And if you think this is a nothing burger and people like me are overreacting, you’ve got your blinders on. Pat McAfee doesn’t have a governor on his show because the governor is doing a great job for LSU… he had him on because it was pure comedy. Pat knew exactly what he was doing…giving a microphone to a total whacko.

10000% this is a horrible look for LSU. We had everything in a good spot for the next coach. Now, we going to hope we still get people interested knowing what a clown show it is behind the scenes with a brain dead governor and the good ole boys club that killed ball in the late 80s to mid 90s. yay.
