Does Willie override Borrego? I'm not sure I understand how we could be so bad

I know a few years ago there was talk that Borrego installed the new offense and BI didn't like it and they just stopped doing it after preseason.

But what exactly is Borrego doing? I mean, I know he'll be better than Willie because anyone is but I'm not sure there's any real reason to be hopeful.

Is he just completely neutered and Willie doesn't allow him to do anything or listen to any input?

I think the offense has been pretty consistently bad, we just had a better roster when healthy a couple of years ago.

Yeah I’m not sure Borrego is going to make the team much better

Yes. We do not run any semblance of a JB offense, we are running the same offense Willie has had since he’s gotten here. Watch this video and let me know if you see any semblance between this and what we do.

I'm not sure we even run an offense. It looks like street ball.

Aren't we running the stupid "5-out" bullshite that Willie tried to bring over from GSW? Turns out if you don't have two of the greatest, most prolific 3-point shooters of all time, that offense doesn't work well

Here’s another one of JB teaching basic offense and how he teaches from the basics and slowly adds in other concepts

Yeah it’s the .5 5 out bullshite that mainly relies on the players just doing whatever they want and not having deliberate actions

It is really really difficult to get out scored 2-29 to start the 3rd Q. That wouldn’t even really be possible but with an actual scheme. I am convinced my buddy who coaches middle school basketball could do better than WG. The offense has no identity, nothing to fall back on.

We’re about to find out. Willie is getting fired when we return from this road trip.

The offense might look a little better under JB but this is a horrible roster top to bottom.

Yeah, I’m finally coming off the train and realizing Zion will need to be a #2 or #3 on a championship team. He’s not carrying us anywhere with his one dimensional game. Even when he goes out and plays incredibly efficient, he’s only making 2s and he’s only making 65% of his FTs. That makes hacking him an efficient move on top of the fact that he gets a bad whistle, he can’t compete with the stars that can actually shoot 3s and then make 90% of their FTs. For this team to win, it’s basically contingent on TM3 and Poole to make like 10 3s a game combined on high efficiency.

Yes, Borrego was GONE this offseason and was pissed when the Pels kept him.

He told my friend this directly. My friend is a college coach at Cal Poly and Borrego had reached out because he liked some of the sets they ran.

They also got very deep into some interviews with a video coordinator they had that was doing really cool stuff with analytics. Griff loved him. Pulled everything the moment Dumars was hired and the Pacers then swooped in and got him.

Same friend thinks Borrego will do wonders with these guys, especially Poole and Fears.

Everyone on the team loves JB

I think JB will show enough to lock down the full time job before the end of the season.

Not sure about Poole, but willing to try anyone but Willie.
