Troy 12-2
Troy 11-2
Tulane 9-5
Tulane 6-1

That doesn’t make me excited. That was very similar to Billy Napier.

You would be in the minority. Sumrall is a really good young coach.

I like him. He has Saban-esque qualities especially in terms of being process driven and not outcome driven. Being disciplined to the process will produce good outcomes. Saban was very granular in terms of the process. It was daily and 1/11th on the practice and football fields.

Be real you only don’t like the hire because it’s an up and comer and not a big name the media is pushing us to go after like lane kiffin. Do your hw on Sumrall in terms of his mindset, leadership traits and the way he turned around Troy, plus having sec playing experience and coordinating experience (unlike Napier ) and you would feel different. Some fans have to stop being lazy and open your eyes to embracing a young hungry energetic coach Getting the opportunity to get this job . Did we just not go with the safe big name hire and get burned with Kelly ?

If I had to predict Auburn is getting Jon Sumrall.

My current prediction is LSU lands Brent Key. Subject to change.

He’s Napier 2.0. A guy that succeeded at smaller schools, but has no experience with the level of expectations at LSU.

He would be overwhelmed, just like Napier was with no clue how to fix it.

People have a really warped view of the Billy Napier era IMO.

Hardest (or one of the hardest) schedule in the country the last two years. He has hit big on some transfers, actually recruited fairly well, the players really liked him and his subordinates also really liked him.

His issue was that he should have humbled himself and went and got a good OC to run the offense. If you listen to reports he clearly wasn't just overwhelmed, he was just too stubborn. In fact I think if he had Mizzou's schedule for the past couple of seasons he might still have a job.

In 1999 there was a LSU coaching candidate with this record at Michigan St

6-5-1
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2

A guy many disliked because (A) he was a barely over .500 coach except for one outlier season and (B) one of those loses was a blowout to the coach LSU just fired.

I think it eventually worked out for LSU and that particular coach.

The point is, every hire is different. You have to go beyond just the W/L record

Good news for you. He will be coaching at Auburn next fall.

I think Jon goes to Auburn too. It's really a good fit. Y'all are getting a good one.

I would take him over the ALL-LSU squad most are proposing online through fans and former players.

In 2021 there was an LSU coaching candidate with this record at UL Lafayette, a school more comparable to Tulane than Michigan State.

7-7
11-3
10-1
11-1

That worked out for LSU, as well, because he was not a serious candidate and went to Florida.

You probably wouldn’t have wanted Saban back in 1999 either.

I suggest you do your homework. There is nothing more important than record, and I listed that for your lazy arse on the post. My homework begins and ends at record and school at which he coached. That is all that matters.

It’s too big of a risk to be another Billy Napier.
