1. Reasonably tank - KM knows the team is bad, not going overboard to win.
2. Develop Shough - team is bad, Shough is a rookie. Start Ratttler and let him stack some Ls while Shough learns the system and the NFL way on the sideline.
3. Start Shough at around the halfway point - give the Ratt 6-8 games, then as soon as he fricks up enough to make it plausible to the rest of the team, bench him. This is why Rattler didn't finish the Bucs game, KM didn't want him to have a chance for a rally that would make going to Tyler awkward.
4. If possible, give Shough a game or two with Olave and Shaheed before the trade deadline to help with his evaluation. Then make the trade if it's there.
5. Once Shough is starting, try to win the rest of the season while still playing as many rookies and young players as possible. Lets see if these players have potential to build on.
6. If Shough doesn't win enough games to push our draft slot out of the top 7-8, then draft a QB. If he does (which probably means winning 4-5 games), build around Tyler. Most of the teams on the rest of our schedule are bad, 4-5 wins is very possible if Shough is good. This gives KM two swings at a rookie QB if needed, which is one more than most coaches get.
7. Profit.

But there isn’t a consensus franchise QB in the draft.

Mostly agree, just not on #6's win quota. I don't think Shough needs to win any games to keep us from drafting a QB, but he does have to play well and give KM enough confidence in him to go Edge in round 1. If he loses and looks bad doing it, we're prob deciding between Mendoza, Moore, or Sellers.

Waaaay too early to say that. Cam Ward wasn't projected at #1 by this point of the season last year. Jayden and JoeyB were just starting to move up draft boards at mid season. What if Dante Moore or Fernando Mendoza go on a run through the playoffs? Or Ty Simpson or whoever? Heck, if Sellers has 3 good games in a row he could be back to #1.

Who needs consensus anyway? Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Pat Mahomes weren't consensus top QBs. If you need a QB and are picking high enough, you shoot your friggin shot.

I think if we're picking top 3, it's a QB. That means Shough has maybe 1 or at most 2 wins against a lot of bad teams. Picking 4-7 may be a no man's land that could go either way depending on Shough and who is available. If we've won enough to pick later than that, we're not looking for a QB.

I would rather take the best player in the draft than reach for a mediocre QB. Take Bain, he seems like a surefire thing.

Have you scouted every potential QB that's draft eligible? Plus, there could be some surprises that jump into the draft as juniors.

Have to agree with most of this. QB position is not just about pure talent, but talent that fits into the system that you are utilizing. We all have seen the "can't miss" guy fluke out and the "mediocre" guy set the league on fire. There are better minds than ours judging the QB's out there and they get it wrong too.

I thought whomever Loomis picks will be wrong. Seems according to most posters here we should try to get fewer picks in the draft so that we will have fewer failures.

It’s not best QB of just this draft.

Saints need to look at the next three drafts.

This is year one on a three year rebuild.

Because Loomis is a festering cancer we delayed the rebuild, which made it a lot worse.

Don't overlook Daniel Jones (probably will be extended), Zach Wilson, Pickett, Trubisky, Minshew.... type of gambles where they look to the draft to secure other aspects of the roster and a relatively younger vet QB to push the QB room or be the QB for the next 5-10 years.

This is still in the "that depends" category. How are they losing those games? Right now, the team is averaging 16 points a game, what if a Shough led offense gets them up to 25 points (right outside top 10), but they are still losing?
Or, what if they trade away 1-2 of his weapons; and while he looks the part, just doesn't have the players around him to compete?

Crazy unlikely, but the only scenario where I'd consider a trade down from pick 1 or 2 to later in the top 10, as long as I got a 1st the next year as part of the deal.

I'm picking 1-3? No excuses allowed for not performing well. Draft a QB.

You sure have a boner for bringing up Vele over and over and over again.
