Apparently one of the council members has to abstain every time because her family owns a bar. They weren't expecting other councilmen to abstain and cause the motion to fail. No liquor licenses are approved for 2026 unless they re-vote.

After the vote you can hear someone says "you're gonna shut the city down!"

Only town where I was pulling up to a DWI checkpoint and tossed a beer out about 75 yards before the stop. Still don’t know how those Barney Fifes didn’t see that.

Local politics don't get the attention it deserves. Only takes a handful of morons to screw a ton of people. All the restaurants will close.

Being a dry town is why Ruston only had fast food for decades. Finally came to their senses and has a lot of nice places now.

they’ll re vote. Nobody is this stupid, even in Hammond. Unfortunately I have had to attend several of those meetings and the incompetence is breathtaking

I’ve seen these idiots do some shady, unethical things over the last few years, but nothing this stupid.

If they don’t fix their screw up there are going to be some very wealthy, very powerful people at risk of losing a lot of money who won’t take too kindly to that.

They were elected in the first place. It's not hard to read the intent of local political candidates (keep our town small types, as population explodes 10X in 5 years, which means you're not getting a decent grocery store.)

But small town retards keep voting for them.
