Are you at least relieved you don't have to keep up the facade anymore?

If I recall correctly, Kelly was universally hated/laughed at on here because he was at Notre Dame and seemed like an overall unpleasant person. Seems like we always made fun of him whenever Notre Dame loss and/or he had a press conference blow up.

Then he was hired at LSU and suddenly, and understandably, we had people on here bending over backwards to talk about how "we finally got an adult in the room". It was clear as day that this board was looking for just anything positive to say about him.

Now that he no longer represents LSU, we have to go back to universally mocking him now, right?

Shhhh. Sidewalk Tiger will be here with stats to prove BK was a good coach and good hire.

who cares? I'm glad we have lots of fans who will defend our coach and support no matter what.

I'd rather be positive about a guy, then he fails and I was wrong, than spend every year criticizing our coach no matter what then saying "I told you so" when it goes bad.

I was never a big defender, but I did think it was a good hire, and I was very hopeful about the future and this year especially.

I think the best case scenario happened. BK has been checked out for a year. We cut the cord before it really really hurt us

I've never been hyped on Kelly.

He's always been a shite human being and I hated that he repped LSU.

I'll always pull for the HBC to succeed no matter who he is until it's absolutely unquestionably time for him go, and even then I'll feel bad about how it turned out.

If you think what this thread's about, then you're showing your lack of reading comprehension.

The worst thing that Kelly did was win the West his first year, after we ended the season before with a WR playing QB and 37 scholarship players in the bowl game (and got destroyed by Kansas state).

After that, he coasted thinking he didn't need to do much more, just get a few more players and he would have a championship.

When I first started Coaching, my mentor told me the worst thing that can happen to a 1st year coach is that you have a winning season. I felt that was weird. However, he explained that coaches that have a good 1st season NEVER change. They can have 5 straight losing seasons after that and will never change because they keep saying, "I've already had a good season. I know MY WAY works".

Yes, I know that wasn't Kelly's 1st season of coaching, but it was his first season at LSU.

I make no apologies for supporting him. Nor have I said anything that I didn’t believe or had logic to espouse. He's won everywhere he’s been, including here.

He didn’t manage his assistant coaching staff very well and did not get as far as I hoped. I’m more concerned about the way this is being handled and how bad it will set the program back. Again, I’m not defending him and I sincerely hope we don’t suffer as bad as we did the last mid season firing.

Someone told me that he was making $800,000 a Month. Is that true? I never realize there was that kind of money in Louisiana. Sure wasn't when I lived there. Times have changed.

Well said.

I guess I “defended” Kelly to the extent that:
1. I thought the hand-wringing over every single comment in press conferences was mostly petty and disingenuous.
2. I would push back on some of the dumber criticism, as a lot of it (not all, but a lot) was fairly football-ignorant (see: “you can’t run the RPO without a running QB!!!1” as Exhibit A).
3. I was OK with our progress the first two years despite the shortcomings, considering where the program was when he got here.
4. He was LSU’s head coach, and like every LSU head coach I genuinely hoped he would be successful here.

I don’t think I ever really went to bat for the guy personally or said he was the coach to lead us back to the promised land, but I also don’t really think I saw much of that around here. So I guess my type of “defense” is what OP’s referring to.

I would also dispute the idea that most people around here hated him at Notre Dame. I don’t think most people really gave a shite one way or the other.
