One aspect of the government shutdown that probably wasn’t anticipated by Chuck Schumer and other Democrats, is that it has revealed to the public just how many people receive food stamps.

Look at this report from The Hill:

SNAP funding expiration set to hit 40 million people

More than 40 million low-income food assistance beneficiaries are expected to receive less help with grocery bills — or no help at all — in the coming days.

quote:

From Overton News:

“There are 42 million people in this country that need food stamps on a weekly basis.”

“And we’re saying ‘people’ deliberately instead of Americans because most of the people that are on food stamps aren’t even from this country.”

It's a higher number than that.

I think food stamps prop up about half of our food economy.

I do not have an issue with helping people that need help.

Its the people gaming the system that irks most people. The new one I learned about this week was the food trucks where EBT buys the ingredients and they make full profit. I used to support those guys and I will never do it again.

I think the bigger issue is that social media will expose the fact that the bulk of people on welfare are a spectacularly entitled class of permanent welfare recipients. It will also become clear that a majority of these people are perfectly capable of supporting themselves but choose not to.

me either. But I made more money than ever in my life during COVID. I was issued two food stamp cards for two kids. Here is the kicker, neither were even still in public schools.

They put funds on the cards up until last year. My wife was mortified. I proudly used every penny to buy whole prime beef tenderloins. They gave me like 2k thru it all

Helping people in need is a necessity.

Endlessly helping generation after generation that are fully capable of working is not a necessity.

Democrats helping themselves to votes is the only thing happening here.

Define "need." If you have tats, weaves, false fingernails/eyelashes, designer purses, the latest iPhone, and a cupboard full of sugary snacks you don't need SNAP.

That is the thing that grinds my gears. You're on food stamps so what do you do? Have 3 more kids.

You should be booted from the govt dole for things like that. Can't take care of yourself yet you involve 3 more lives in your mess?

No point in hating the player when everyone else is taking advantage of the system. If he doesnt, he falls behind.

Hate the system.

Cut them off, send them back, find emergency funds for actual citizens

I’m tired of non citizen foreigners being a drain on our resources. Either come here legally and hold a job that provides enough to support yourself and family or get the frick out

Precisely. Folks using SNAP to feed their kids so what cash they do have can go to they iPhone is horse shite.

How many more genuinely needy Americans can be helped if we get rid of the waste/fraud/abuse of illegals siphoning off funds for the programs and jettisoning EBTisha who's never worked an honest day in her life because she's turned a safety net into a hammock?

(Yes, there is white trash gaming the system, too. That will be EBTonya. Better?)

It's totally ridiculous when you see the number of people on some combination of food stamps and other programs.

People with broken legs, spine issues and other shite manage to get back to work after physical rehab.

Meanwhile, we have all these jagoffs who are on SNAP for 83 months....because they can't do shite in general and have 4 or 5 kids.

Hopefully this shut down last several more months. If so, we will see a drastic decrease in grocery prices across the board.
