His coaching history:

2001–2002 Georgia Tech (GA)
2004 Western Carolina (RB/TE)
2005 UCF (GA)
2006–2007 UCF (TE/RC)
2008 UCF (ST/TE/RC)
2009–2011 UCF (OL/RC)
2012–2013 UCF (AHC/OL/RC)
2014–2015 UCF (AHC/OC/OL/RC)
2016–2018 Alabama (OL)
2019–2022 Georgia Tech (AHC/OL/RGC)
2022 Georgia Tech (interim HC)
2023–present Georgia Tech

Hard nosed guy that players will get the physicality back at LSU. 3 years as Bama OL coach. OC experience. Young guy that has a rep as someone who won't be outworked.

He’s not intrigued by LsU as an option

Dude is at his Alma mater and fixing to get paid heavily. Why leave a current top 10 program for LSU? Why leave the comfort of the ACC for the SEC? Why leave a program on the rise for one that is in decline?

GT is a top ten team, not a top ten program

LSU is a top five program.

That’s why he’ll leave

It’s not just Tech fans. Most people with a brain think it would take a miracle to pull him from there right now. Not saying never, but as close as possible to it

riiiiight.

Even before NIL LSU wasn’t a top 5 program, and with NIL, you certainly aren’t. Times are a changing…good luck getting a coach on about the worst year ever to be looking for a coach

Resources and sustainability. GA Tech won't consistently recruit at a high level. He's got a good thing with Haynes King and a veteran team, but the probability of Tech staying atop the ACC is unlikely. He makes 4.5 mil right now. He'll get a raise of course from Tech, but LSU can more than double that if they want him.

I think he'd be a great choice, but agree that it would be hard to pull him if GT matches.

Don't know a thing about the guy aside from what's posted here, but to me it really comes down to the alma mater issue, how bad he wants a natty, and the level of stress he wants.

I think it will be very difficult to win a natty at GT, even with an easier road to the playoffs. Just too hard from a talent standpoint. On the other hand, they have a great, relatively small but loyal fan base who will be much easier to please than anyone in the SEC.

Will be interesting to see.

GA Tech Board voted earlier this year a $22M increase in athletic funds for 2026. They just paid an OL millions in NIL. They have pledged to catch up and keep up with the higher ends ACC teams when it comes to NIL….

Once he gets his new contract, he’s stay at his Alma Mater for quite a while

I think the question with Key will be if he can continue to do what hes done without Buster Faulkner and Haynes King.

His resume is solid. Wish he had a couple more years of HC experience. But he's the HC at his Alma mater. Are we sure he's that money hungry?

LSU is like #2 in NIL spent this year, yet you had to settle for Brian Kelly during your last search. That clown couldn’t do anything with the players he got

Let’s be honest, this was a shitty year to fire your coach cause no one great is seriously looking right now.

You will be settling for someone like Franklin or a middle of the pack teams coach.

The "great" ones are never looking. The key is finding the next great one who no one else knows will be great yet.

Why can't you grasp the concept that someones 'dream job' is coaching at their alma mater?

Not everyone wants to coach In Da sEC!

Why couldn't this guy turn Georgia Tech into a consistent playoff team? With the expanded playoffs he could.

LSU could likely double his salary but that might not be important enough to get him to go to LSU. Not saying that it can't or won't happen, but it's silly to think every coach would leave their current situation to jump into an SEC job.

Because Haynes King won't be on North Avenue forever.
