I know he doesn’t have much experience, but that doesn’t matter. Plenty of NFL coaches today are directly hired from coordinator positions. He’s young and extremely likable and the players and recruits will love him. CFB has changed rapidly with NIL and is becoming more like the NFL anyways.

It could happen. Wouldn’t melt.

But i also think it would be widely criticized by LSU fans at the moment of the hire.

Maybe so, but I don’t believe the next coach will have zero experience as a head coach.

Love Kelvin Sheppard. Don’t want him as head coach.

If he played at Texas St no one would even think twice about him being a candidate

Getting someone who identifies with the university can absolutely be a plus. In this days game you have to have heart to win it all. Just look at Ed O and LSU and Kirby Smart and Georgia

Well if we could bring Saban in just for a year or two.. and Kelvin in as HC in waiting after that would be awesome..

Totally get your point, and you are right, but Georgia would have a different HC right now with that same thinking.

If Kirby Smart played at Cal, 0% chance he’d be Georgia’s HC right now replacing Richt.

I guess you're right. The fact he came from Nick Saban's coaching tree and proved success as a coordinator while learning from Nick didn't have anything to do with it I'm sure.

It absolutely did. But being UGA alum sealed the deal.

It’s disingenuous to not acknowledge that “one of us” doesn’t matter: it absolutely does… sometimes it works (harbaugh/smart), sometimes it doesn’t (frost)

Yeah because all nick Saban protégés are proven successes…

Correct. But that, combined with a good recruiting track record and success as a coordinator in the SEC and the the fact he was a GA alum all played a role. The point stands that if he had no experience, they would not have offered him simply because he was a GA alum.

I’m not sure why people are so opposed to it. This is a new landscape. We have the best GM in the game we don’t need a guy that has experience with the off the field BS we have an army of guys to do that. If he’s got the Xs and Os down why wouldn’t we want to consider him if the big fish don’t bite?
