Garrett Temple is still in the NBA at 39 years old.

I would have bet my life that the weak link on that Final Four team would never make an NBA roster. Truly one of the most underrated careers in sports.

Does he still have any actual skills or is this a way to get another assistant coach?

Over the last three years he has played an average of 26 games. Probably just a glorified coach at this point. Not as bad as Udonis Haslem though. He played in 25 regular season games …. In his last 4 years combined.

I saw him in play in the Top 28 years ago and I didn’t think he’d ever see the floor at LSU. It’s crazy that he’s had a full NBA career.

He’s basically in the Udonis Haslem player coach role but he still gets some reps in during garbage time.

Is there a limit on the number of assistant coaches you can have?

Maybe the weak link offensively, but his performance against JJ Reddick is my fondest memory of that tournament run.

Redick was like 4 of 21 that game.

Weak link?
He drew the other team's perimeter player on defense every game.

A certain 3 pointer still hurts doesn’t it?

It shows that the teams Garrett has played for do value his defensive skills.
Wonder if he will remain in the game as a coach when his playing days are over.

Redick going 3-18 in his last game with Temple smothering him to the point the refs couldn’t even help.

He has made $57 million in contracts. Good for Garrett.

First of all ... Temple was not a weak link on the Final Four squad.
Secondly, not sure if anyone will recall this, but Temple and Tyrus Thomas both redshirted the year before the final four run.
Those guys were in the PMAC before every game that year practicing with John Treloar before every game. Just the three of them. Those dudes were grinding and improved so much by their second season. Props to Garrett for building himself into the player he became.

And JJ Redick did not draw this best defender in the NBA.
There are a ton of college defensive stoppers without great offensive skills who never see a single NBA game. Maybe it was too harsh to call him the weak link. But Thomas, Davis, and Mitchell were way more threatening scoring the ball.
