Perkins had a BAD night

Watching Wheels' excellent highlights LINK I noticed a few things.
At around 85 seconds (Aggies first TD):
Am I wrong or was that run (and TD) entirely Perkins' fault? He's spying Reed and is completely out of position - he's in Cooley's area of responsibility. (Also pretty unimpressed by his jogging after Reed...)
Later around 3:16:
Again, I don't know what Perkins was doing. He's completely out of position once the play gets going. Instead the RB waves as he cruises on by.
Love the 'tackle' around 3:44.
At around 5:05....I don't think this is Perkins fault, maybe this is a symptom of Blake's issue with mobile QBs, but Perkins is just standing there spying Reed. That's taking a defensive player (potentially a really good one) completely out of the play BY DESIGN. Not loving it. (I guess the flip side is he rushes and then loses containment and I'm bitching about that too, so...)
Again at 8:54 - where's the hustle?!
(Props for the INT at 9:18!)
Maybe not his fault, but at 11:08 Perkins was schooled by #60. Easy play for Reed.
At 11:23, I just don't get what he's doing. But it ain't working.
Ditto at 11:34. What is is responsibility there?! Easy TD for Reed.
At 14:28, should I try to tackle the guy to stop a TD? Or make a 'business decision'?
He wasn't even on the field for A&M's last TD (but plenty of other starters were).
I feel like Baker is a bit too aggressive with mobile QBs but man, without Weeks in to pick up the slack it sure feels like Perkins is a net liability at this point.

He’s currently “trying to figure things out” …….

Nothing against Perkins, but I'll be glad when he's no longer am option.

He does not like to play inside, so he took the game off. He is a major disappointment.

he had a really bad night against vandy as well. So it was really two weeks in a row, which starts to look like a trend unfortunately.

He had a few bad nights

He was straight up jogging on a few plays, it was pretty clear he was checked out.
Perk's career here has been beyond bizarre but I still love him solely because he was here through the Kelly era, half of that with Matt House. And even when he was a huge name and could've easily left for a contender or bigger bag, dude stuck around the whole time.
Gotta appreciate that on some level.

He created his bad night by loafing all over the field. He has checked out. He did the same thing in the Vandy game.
His total solo tackles for both games was 3 and he had 3 assists. That is like not being on the field at all for the important position he had.
I know loafing when I see it and Perkins has checked out.

Baker has not figured out Perk. Plain & simple.

He's a senior thats really a sophomore experience wise. I think had he been learning one position and healthy this whole time he might would be playing at a little higher level. Great linebackers play with anticipation and being able to diagnose what a offense is trying to do. He has zero of this. Actually being a really intelligent player never gets talked about enough on here.

quote:Maybe he's just not that good? I mean, what is there to figure out? Watch the games, he is a poor tackler, and he takes a lot of plays off. There's a disconnect between his physical ability and performance on the field and at some point you have to stop blaming the coaches.

Baker isn’t the only one. Perkins has 2-3 good games as a freshman. That’s it.

Yeah we have one over hyped guy on defense and one on offense.

He’s simply not an every down player. He has his strengths and can be very good, even elite, in certain spots and situations. But he shouldn’t be on the field every play.

NFL won't like it
I dont think the NFL is going to like either of our over hyped guys. Not even a little.

Maybe there is nothing to figure out. He is both 1) a Great Athlete and 2) a Not so good Football player. Both can be true.
The NFL has the highest level of coaching. Let's see if some of these NFL coaches think LSU could not figure Perk out and take him in the 1st or 2nd round or there is nothing to figure out and he is more like a 5th to 7th round pick.d
In 2025 NFL draft, I think 49 LB's were drafted. The 10th best LB, not taking into account using 3-4 terminology [ILB either Mike or Will or OLB either Sam or Jack] was taken in 4th round, 15 LB's were taken in the 1st 4 Rounds. Perkins is not an Inside LB (Mike or Will) nor is he a Jack LB as he is too small. That leaves the Sam which is his position. I saw on some recent NFL draft rankings Perkins is the 10th best rated OLB (which means Sam).
So that to me suggest 5th to 7th round NFL draft pick next April, based on his Athleticism.
