A lot of companies are performing lay offs right now. Mine did 5% last week.

Its about 10% of corporate. Its a lot but theres so much bloat in Amazon. Anyone L7 and above his heavily incentivized to add headcount they dont need because the promotion process actually has team size requirements unofficially built into it - if you dont have a large team with several highly leveled members your promotion will be denied. So they empire built.
Jassy kind of said if without saying it a few years ago when he said AWS and some other business units went way over headcount so they implemented a hiring freeze for a year. The AI excuse is their way of unwinding this shite without saying out loud their corporate culture fricked them
