Why would Kiffin pick LSU over Ole Miss or Florida?

Ole Miss' argument for him staying is somewhat valid. Why would he leave a potential playoff school? If he makes the playoff at Ole Miss and can do it consistently over the next decade, with the potential to get lucky with a natty or at least play for a natty, why would he leave? He's also setup roots with family in Oxford.

Similar to Oxford, he has ties to Gainesville and even the entire state of Florida. Ex-wife/fiancé went to Florida, has a vacation home in Boca, his son appears to be a fan of Florida (unless he's trolling like his father), ties to Tampa through his dad, etc.

He's already stated he'll never make a decision based on money (we'll see), so what does LSU offer Kiffin that Ole Miss or Florida can't?

LSU does have the advantage of being the only P5 school in the state when it comes to recruiting, but Florida, as a whole, has more talented players to choose from.

Ole Miss is 1 of 2 P5 schools.

Florida is 1 of 3 P5 schools.

If/when it does come to money, Florida can match anything LSU offers. Ole Miss... maybe?

Is Baton Rouge really much better of an overall city to Oxford or Gainesville?

He doesn't necessarily have to live in BR or Gainesville. He could choose:

Florida: Alachua, Micanopy, High Springs, McIntosh, Orlando, Jacksonville, etc.

Louisiana: Zachary, Prairieville, Denham Springs, St. Francisville, etc.

I'm not going to pretend I'm familiar with these cities as I've never lived in either state. I just googled "cities outside of....".

What does the NIL picture look like?

Just in terms of overall monies:

4. Florida Gators ($763 million)
7. LSU Tigers ($618 million)
35. Ole Miss Rebels: $310 million

Oxford and Gainesville are much better cities than BR and any town surrounding BR. I've long believed BR has to be improved b/c NOLA is a lost cause. So, build BR up so people outside of this state would want to live there.

I think he’d leave for Baton Rouge over Oxford.

I think he’d pick UF over all of them IF they promised him the moon.

Whichever one gives him $12 million for 5+ years or more than that is gonna lock him up. He's just gonna take whoever wants to pay him more.

I'm hopeful that LSU stays away from that price tag.

Oxford is ok, but it's not all that great. It wants to be cool like Athens, but it tries too hard.

Gainesville is an absolute shite hole. Worst city/town in the SEC bar none. Worse even than College Station.

Because LSU is a better job

In Louisiana, the head coach at LSU is a king.

In Florida, the UF coach is just another coach.

BR isn't great by any stretch but then again neither is Gainesville. Gainesville is basically the Thibodaux of Florida

It’s just way easier to recruit in Louisiana if you put any effort in at all. If Miami keeps doing well, that’s a big recruiting power to go against every year. I think the Florida and LSU jobs are very close. I think Florida is a better state to live. I just think it’s easier to win at LSU than Florida.

Gainesville isn’t great but BR is so much more of a shithole it isn’t remotely similar

BR is a legit top crime infested city period, much less compared to other college towns

Kiffins grandchild is going to be in Baton Rouge.

I don't believe Louisiana is easier to recruit in than Florida b/c Florida is at least 3-4 times more populous than Louisiana.

Louisiana folks kill me with acting like BR is a desirable place to live. I'm embarrassed that my hometown won't change.

When you consider:
1. just how much time these coaches know they’re going to be spending either out of town or in the athletic facilities;
2. That the coach KNOWS that he’s going to end up buying some multimillion dollar brick mansion in a double gated community, that every college town has one, and that they’re all practically identical to each other, and
3. They have practically unlimited access to a private jet owned by a booster

I just can’t see the choice of city weighing that heavily on the choice of a head coach. If a program is willing to pay me $11-12 million a year, my family and I will live in an ugly city without a farmer’s market to go to on Saturday mornings

I live how people act like the LSU coach is going to be around the plebs. He will live in the nicest neighborhood in Baton Rouge and never see the trash.

Where he’d live in BR is no different than where he’d live in Gainesville

Yeah I feel like people who didn’t grow up there or maybe just went to LSU or only visit on Saturdays don’t realize that BR has nice places to live just like any city. There’s some incredibly gorgeous neighborhoods with oak trees, golf courses and whatever you want in BR. There’s lakes and garden district are nice semi-urban areas with great communities. And unlike Oxford he can drive to a real city if he wants night life, concerts, world class entertainment. But as others said, he’s not going to be home much. And LSU has a fantastic campus with world class facilities where he’ll spend most of his time.

ETA: if you want to know why LSU over Florida just look at the media narrative when LSU opened up. It’s clear prestige wise LSU is the best job currently open.

The best coach UF could get four years ago was from University of Louisiana Lafayette. While LSU got ND’s coach.

What makes you think UF is any more attractive of a job now?
