I really hope a hiring framework is setup now and is concrete.

What really concerns me about the rumors of Scott being out of the hiring process for the new head coach is the potential for ensuing train wreck. The probability of a train wreck grows higher without a single point man. With Scott apparently out and LSU under Interim President Matt Lee there appears to be no point man, but the governor...oh no.
This would be a precarious moment for any program under normal circumstances—with a fully intact AD and university president.
But my biggest worry isn’t that Scott is out—it’s that he’s not out. He’ll be forced to straddle two worlds: one foot in public, projecting the image that he’s the sole decision-maker, and the other foot tangled up with the donors and politicians pulling his strings. ADs always have to balance both sides, but there are times they need real independence. This is one of those times, and Scott likely doesn’t have it. Jeff Landry, his allies, and the big-money donors will probably be calling the shots.
If Scott is staying on as AD, he needs full independence to make this hire. That means giving him a clear, agreed-upon set of parameters—and then the donors and politicians need to back off and let him and his team do their job.
We’re already on the hook for BK’s 10-year deal. I don’t want the next contract debacle locking LSU into another decade-long commitment to Jeff Landry’s wife’s brother who coached Saints special teams for two years.

I mean if the rumors are true that BK wanted to fire Davis but Scott wouldn’t let him, he NEEDS to be shown the door now.
That’s not a defense of BK, he needed to go but Davis should have been the first assistant fired.

I think you made up most of this in your head. Not that it isn’t plausible, but it isn’t reality either.

More likely, Scott said fire Sloan and BK offered Davis instead, and Scott said no. That then got misconstrued on the internet.
Rumors are stupid. We need to just relax. Dust will settle.

The good news is if we talk about potential train wrecks the likelihood of them happening grows smaller.

quote:I would love to understand the mystery of Brad Davis. I get he's on paper recruited well, but it has been clear for several years now that OL play is subpar, and yet, he was the only coach Kelly retained from teh previous staff, and this odd rumor that he was somehow a sticking point in the Kelly negotiations. It just doesn't make sense.

Could a better OL coach prevent our current tackles from getting bull rushed into the QB and DE's simply running around them?

I'm relieved that the Kelly era is over, but I'm too old to buy into the myth that the next hire will be iron clad just because we have some wealthy backers.
Remember what a sh*t show UTexas became when the boosters took over and played AD? We're not immune to the same mess.
Hopefully the Powers that Be have enough sense to follow a somewhat professional hiring process and seek advisement on final decisions.

Mulkey should be the point man. I trust her more than anyone up there because she knows what a winner looks like. Scott does not.

To me it sounded like Scott didn’t want BK to be the one making the hires to replace him and that’s what the issue was about. I think Scott had it in his head that BK was done at the end of the year no matter what and he didn’t want to make wholesale changes mid season because of that.

"A professional hiring process"? LSU's last 3 head coaches have now been fired; 2 who won NC's & then led their teams through horrific losing seasons. Josh Pate, FWIW, calls LSU a Top 5 program. He 's added that "the folks in Florida are now very unhappy", the implication being LSU's program is a better program than Florida's & thus will have a better shot at hiring a better head coach. Why, then, has a Top 5 program had such a poor hiring history? Poor A.D.'s vs La.'s Good O'Boys" system?

I'd say several factors, including a couple of ADs who were over their heads at key moments. Les' botched firing led to Coach O's hiring IMO. He gave us 2019, for which we should all be grateful, but he ended up not being a viable long term option. I don't fully understand what went so wrong with BK, but part of the issue is that CFB is in a time of massive change and turmoil, and i don't think he was able to adapt.
Just hoping for a rational approach, not a knee-jerk reaction. Would love for them to make a solid, long-term hire.
