Think of guys that would be considered home run hires for anyone if your school got him. I think of guys like…

Kiffin
Deboer
Kirby
Lanning
Day
Sarkisian
Dabo (only by virtue of winning multiple titles - he’s sucked as of late)

Would probably throw Cignetti in there too. What I’m trying to say is that if LSU fires Brian Kelly, who are they realistically going to get who is better? Seems like there is a very finite number of GREAT coaches in CFB today, which is why it feels like great programs like LSU, Florida, etc. can’t seem to find their guys.

It doesn't have to be someone that is currently considered great. There are guys like Alex Golesh who very well could end up on that list BUT if you spend $45-$50 mill on a buyout and just had to approve a ticket increase to cover a $4.6 mill revenue loss due to the new schedule I would not expect another White Whale to replace BK.

Everyone on my list has either made it to a national championship game or is winning at a high level at their current school. Not everyone can be a national championship winner, especially only 2 years removed from Saban

Your title said Great. Nothing about Kiffin or Deboar is great. Had you said decent, maybe. Above average? Sure. Dabo has reached the top. There aren't many Great coaches. Thats what makes hiring one so hard.

I just posted this in another thread, but what is great about Lanning?

Yes, he won the B1G Championship last year over James Franklin, then got trounced in the Rose Bowl. He was also 0-3 against DeBoer at Washington.

I don’t think you can have him on the list, even when you include his titles. It’s a totally different game now, and it’s pretty clear that he’s not cut out for it.

Kiffin is always listed at the top of everyone’s big boards when a major coaching position opens up and Deboer has won at a high level at two different schools. I think great coaches and elite coaches are different classes myself - Kirby is an elite coach, Kiffin is a great coach

Can we just hire a strong coach for half of what Kelly wanted and then spend the rest on building the interior offense and defense?

Great hires.

Brent Key

Ryan Silverfield

Guys we could get on an incentive heavy contract.
