The BK buyout money is one major side but there is another piece at play

HC works for AD
AD works for the LSU President
LSU President works for the LSU Board of Supervisors
Board of Supervisors is appointed by the Governor

Currently LSU has an Interim President, Matt Lee, so there is no Official Chief Executive to make big decisions

For LSU to make any Athletic Dept personnel moves in the near term, the BOS will be heavily involved

The last time the BOS was involved was 2021 and some very vocal members wanted Mel Tucker from Michigan State at LSU

The BOS involved in personnel is not a good thing

Scott Woodward and LA Gov Jeff Landry are not close. Jeff Landry is not a fan of the money LSU spends on athletics. So the BOS being involved in any personnel moves could be really problematic politically

We might see a new LSU President in November or December, hopefully

So any agent representing a HC wants to know who’s their client will be working for. That is a big question right now.

Consequently, staff changes are probably the best we could hope for right now unless there’s something major brewing behind the scenes.

now, if Kelly is burnt and doesn’t wanna go forward, he could offer to retire for a settlement payment. Because if he retires, his contract is voided. So to do that he could negotiate a settlement with LSU to walk away.

If Kelly is gone, I think that is most probably what will happen. I don’t see Brian Kelly wanting to come back next year and trying to hire new staff and rebuild this roster again in a climate where NIL may not be in his favor anymore.
