I think that is what the democrats are hoping they will do.

In fairness, we're already witnessing drastic swings every single time the Presidency switches hands.

But also in fairness, I agree with you, because it would only get more crazy with a lowering of the bar.

The filibuster protects us in the same way the Electoral College does. It's better to get a 60 seat majority in the Senate

No. The longer the Dems filibuster, the longer the government remains shut down. The longer all of this goes on, the more the blame turns onto the Democrats.

They will eventually cave because they have far too many constituents who rely on welfare programs.

Supermajorities help prevent a 50% + 1 vote majority from drastically changing America and then rechanging it every few years. It is by definition undemocratic but pure democracy is actually chaos. You need checks and balances.

The filibuster is weird but as others have said it is saving us overall.

I’m very pleased with how republicans have seemed to respond to this compared to democrats. Democrats were ready to burn Manchin and synema at the stake for not supporting overturning the filibuster.

Dumb take. Let the grown ups, who are capable of seeing that one day the opposing party will be in power, deal with issues like these.

I would rather return election of senators to state legislatures than lower the threshold for the filibuster.

It’s also preventing us from passing any meaningful legislation regarding taxes and spending cuts. Omnibus like the BBB can accomplish some of it, but not all that’s necessary and Congress can still filibuster the appropriations bills that fund it.

If anything, lower the filibuster for appropriations and spending bills only. Leave it at 60 for everything else

This is impossible in today’s climate

Why would the democrats retake political power within any meaningful time horizon?

No.

But get rid of the procedural filibuster. Make Senators stand there and bloviate.

History says they can win back the house in 2026 relatively easily. Even with gerrymandering.

It’s also incredibly possible they can win the presidency in 2028.

The senate is unlikely but the idea that democrats won’t ever have power again even in the next 10 years is incredibly foolish given how much of a pendulum politics is.
