Let’s continue to push the Petrino as LSU OC idea

I have seen this mentioned a couple times on the board and honestly, would not be a bad idea at all… Sure, he’s on the older side and has some baggage (Who doesnt at this point), but he could provide a stable couple of years.
He’s still sharp enough to develop QBs and has had Arkansas offense play pretty decent. I doubt he would job hop for another OC job (UNLV-> A&M but Elko didnt retain him there so he went to the Hogs) and his HC aspirations would also be limited due to his age for some. Could provide LSU a veteran and stable OC for a couple of years.

Arkansas may very well hire him as head coach.

Arkansas is keeping him. The plan was always to let Pittman start the season and eventually fail so they could hand the reigns over to Petrino yet again.
He left in such a bad way the first time, this was the easiest way to get him back without more media buzz / possible backlash from fanbase.

It just feels right.

I doubt it.
But this is an example of the type of creative / atypical thinking that could help LSU. Gundy is another example.
Guys with baggage and who have a strong offensive background are good fits.

He has to win a few games, but he definitely has a group of supporters. I also see the possibility of the Gus Bus taking a trip to Arkansas.

I agree, Petrino is a pretty effective offensive mind.

I am not at all a fan of Gundy.

They will definitely promote Petrino to HC. They didn’t want to let him go after the incident with the gal and motorcycle years ago.

I feel partly responsible. I was one of the first on this board to propose Petrino as HC …. FOR ARKANSAS!
CBK Derangement has infected these boards. Petrino is deeply flawed, toxic, just … way worse than “some baggage”.
I was joking! Petrino shouldn’t be in any position of authority anywhere.

I don’t ever see Gundy coaching again. He absolutely hates what CFB has become.

Imagine if Kiffin left Ole Miss and they rehired Houston Nutt.

Well of course
Petrino is a top offensive mind across multiple decades and different type of offenses. He’s produced elite offenses with statues, dual threats, pass-first and run-first teams.
Would be an absolute no-brainer.
That said, Arkansas would have to not make him HC …

LSU should take note and take a page out of their playbook and be VERY VERY selective with our next OC, because I think our next OC will eventually become LSU’s next HC.
It would be easy out of anger and frustration to make Kelly sleep in the mess he’s created on offense. I’d play chess instead of checkers and hire our possible next HC as OC without letting Kelly go just yet. See how it plays out. Worst case is it all blows up as it appears to be doing now. Best case is you minimize roster turnover, minimize coach buyouts outside Kelly, and hire a HC with the drive and incentives to excel without an absurd buyout.

That's got disaster written all over it.

Arkansas offense is #4 in the nation and #1 in the SEC. Its all his offense, too, as he was the OC last year.
They are going to hire him bec he will work for a cheap contract. And he's a proven commodity.

Bring Sam for Oline. Neither will ever be head coaches again

This may be the worst idea I have seen in a while, with all due respect. You don’t want anyone in the Arkansas program within 100 miles of Tiger stadium. 100 miles may be too close.
