Update: JACKSON PARISH, La. (KNOE) - One person is dead after a plane crash near Ruston on Oct. 21.

The crash happened in a wooded area near Old Snipe Road in Jackson Parish, about five miles away from the Ruston airport in Lincoln Parish.

Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown says only one person was on the plane.

This crash comes after another one was reported in Lafayette just hours before.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says three people died after a plane crashed near the intersection of Gloria Switch Road and La. Hwy. 93.

Around 9:44 AM (CST) flight N42BE seemed to spiral and crash just south of the Ruston municipal airport. The flight originated out of Huntsville, TX.

That plane has a parachute. Must have been sudden.

Cirrus. Must have been something pretty catastrophic because that plane has a parachute recovery system as well as an auto-landing feature

Is it just me or are there more and more amateurs learning to fly planes as a hobby? I have 4 different friends/acquaintances that are trying to get/keep pilot's licenses just for fun. I never even heard of anybody but really rich people doing this until the last 5-10 years.

Flightaware shows the plane is owned by LaSalle Management Company, LLC out of Ruston.

Flightaware also shows the plane descended town to 1,900 from 9,000 for the approach into Ruston. Then, things go weird. High rates of descent, then a 500 foot increase in altitude. Data stops at 1,700 feet.

With the circles, I'm wondering if the pilot was buying time or deployed the parachute and the winds took the plane for a ride.

Sad either way. Prayers for the family.

This model does have the parachute, but this is an older model that didn't have auto-landing. Only Vision Jets had this feature until this years SR-22.

That’s a 2012 model. Parachute but no auto-landing feature.

That altitude graph looks like 9,000 feet, but that’s an incorrect altitude for a west bound plane. Maybe it was VFR and 8500, but it sure looks higher than that on that graph.

I think they also run the prison out on 15 going toward Alto from Monroe. Big duck hunters. Own some nice waterfowl properties. Hope the pilot isn’t one of the guys I am thinking of in that family. Really cool dude and really religious.
