Atlanta Hawks All-Defensive guard Dyson Daniels has agreed to a four-year, $100 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, agent Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports Management told ESPN.
Daniels won the NBA's Most Improved Player of the Year, was runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year, made first team All-Defense and finished with 229 steals last season, the most in a season by any player since Gary Payton in 1995-96.

We dodged a bullet with this one, and I said as much when we dealt him (that he was about to become very expensive very quickly).
Paying a one-way player you can't rely on late in playoff games $25M/year is the deal teams regret pretty quickly. Putting us into the tax to do so would be insane.
I shite on Griff a lot, but we couldn't afford all the (non-cohesive) talent he assembled.

Good for DD. He’s an awesome on ball defender and has translated that into a big payday. His offense still has a ways to go.

We got fleeced, and the Hawks extension shows that. It would be nice to have a young tale talent we could invest to that level.
Loomis gifted Philly a Super Bowl with his stupidity and now Griffin/Dumars are in process of doing the same for the Hawks.

25 mill is not crazy for the DPOY and with the way the cap is increasing.
I'm kinda glad we are not paying it but that isn't some crazy deal. Worse players have gotten way more

It's a good deal for the Hawks. Makes him much easier to move if it doesn't work out and allows them to try to keep that team together. If he would have gotten 5/150, his contract would have been an albatross the second he signs it.
In terms of player value, it's not good. But considering how much offensive players the Hawks have, the fit is good enough to pay him.

He wasn't dpoty but I see what you're saying.
I just wouldn't want to pay someone with the hope that they develop into an offensive positive. Right now Dyson is a liability in crunch time, and a starting backcourt of him and Trae Young didn't make the playoffs.

We didn’t, and not a single person would be saying that if Murray were healthy.
We gave up the value required to get a player like Murray, who is 5 times the player DD is/was at the time the trade was made.
I personally didn’t like the trade and would have rather we go after Trae, but we didn’t get fleeced in the deal for Murray.

For sure I'd love to pay that for Mobley

You'd think you'd have left this island after last year.

Ahh the ole "We dodged a bullet paying Dyson 25mil but Herb at 22mil is a steal.... Yawn.
DD @ 25mil > Herb @ 22mil.
But I agree that we could NOT have paid almost $50mil between both DD and Herb so that wasn't an option.
I also think its hilarious that people still think Herb is a better player when the ages + contracts tell a completely different story.
The only argument left for Herb > DD is whatever wrong opinion someone will create in their mind.

Why would paying more for the inferior player be a better deal?

He is a better player.
You can play Herb late in playoff games. You can't play DD.
Herb can handle and be a playmaker. DD cannot.

That's pretty generous

Dyson is 5 years younger than Herb. He is younger now after several years in the league than Herb was when he was drafted.
Its highly likely that he will end up being the far superior player
