I’ve read it was for beef imports and such. But, before assuming things, I figured you folks have it all honestly figured out.

Prop up the one democratic/conservative government in a sea of Socialism. Big war right now with China for sway in Central and South America.

An ally in South America, I would imagine. Not endorsing it, not necessarily against it. Just an objective guess.

If the conservative government is so awesome then why does it need to be propped up?

This. Similar to our support of Israel. I'd rather see our tax dollars being spent in our own hemisphere rather than countries on the other side of the world.
Also, an having a friendly country in South America to put up more resistance to China’s growing influence in South America. IMHO

With Argentina, you'll continue to piss money away. If Milei loses the mid terms you'll piss even more money away as the peso devalues even more against the dollar as the Argentines attempt to hoard as many dollars as possible as the central bank's reserves start to shrivel up. I doubt the currency swap does much good. It will just postpone the inevitable until the next Presidential election where Milei loses and Peronist types win.

You are getting nothing from them......NOTHING. They are a perpetual basket case.

Brazil is a much better bet.

Colombia used to be a fortress against commies in the region and they elected a Marxist guerilla war lord (or as Milei called him, a terrorist)

Monroe doctrine needs to be enforced

Another sleep joe legacy point. We had a president in Brazil who loved America and wanted to work with us. And they campaigned for the communist felon who immediately severed our ties and hopped into bed with China

An ally in South America?!?!?!?!?!

Why do we have to pay Allies $40 billion to be allies..

Also why do all our "allies" get billions a year, do nothing in return, and wear those silly little hats.

We either are the greatest nation on earth and people should be paying us to be "allies" or have special treatment, or we are getting fleeced by our leaders who give out money left and right while we crumble from within.

Trump sells himself as a deal maker. If he can put his money where his mouth is he should get something for us out of this.

You should stay out of conversations that don't involve the purchase of bait fish and substandard fuel at the dock.

Whatever you mean about a discounted "entrana" I can get quality steak at home or from the Australians....they are more reliable....or are you talkingabout the video game.

The fact remains that the Argentines routinely default on debt obligations and this "crisis" will end up most likely with the same result as Bessent finds that he swapped dollars for monopoly money....and he made his bones as a currency trader. In the larger scheme 40 billion is not that much if it stops there. But it's stupid to think this is not a Hail Mary pass and you're 9 points down.
