Per Ben Garrett of On3, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's agent, Jimmy Sexton, is trying to get his client to become the highest-paid coach in college football.

"Sources told the Ole Miss Spirit on Friday Kiffin’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, is aiming to make Kiffin the highest-paid coach in the country," Garrett wrote. "Auburn, LSU and others could all open, too."

Jimmy needs to work on getting the Vitello/Giants deal across the goal line before worrying about coaches that are still in season.

Well I know an AD dumb enough to do it (even though Kiffin is arguably a top 5 coach with the resources at Ole Miss) AND this said AD will give him a high dollar buyout too!

If Kiffin becomes the highest paid coach, then I hope it's somewhere other than LSU.

College programs need to put an end to these insane HC contracts.

IF LSU were to hire Kiffin, I wouldn't mind giving him a big contract, within reason, since he has shown the ability to kill it. I genuinely believe Kiffin is simply lacking the talent and once he has access to the right talent, he will roll.

If we were to go the “big fish” route, Kiffin is the guy. I would rather look at a mid major who’s shown some potential though. We could get a shorter contract if we go that direction, and have more money aimed at players.

These contracts need clawback provisions or 10 year terms need to go the way of single bar helmets.

Why?

He's just doing his job. His clients have the ultimate say. If they don't want to try to constantly leverage their current school for bigger and bigger contracts, then he (as the agent) can't do anything about it.

I'm sure the ADs and boards would LOVE to do that. But here's what happens: Big money donors DEMAND the best football team, and they DEMAND the best HC possible. The coaches and agents know how great the demand is in the marketplace and how few coaches there are who get such demand. Thus, they drive the price for their services sky high.

The AD may not want to pay it. He may want to hire a less accomplished coach at a lower, less onerous contract. But that's unacceptable. The donors DEMAND the best.

Sexton wants over $13 mil a year for Kiffin. You still will owe BK $10 MIL a year. Figure another $10 mil to fire and hire all the assistants. Plus $20-30 mil for NIL per year.

LSU boosters aren't coughing up all that money.

Dont get the love for Kiffin.

You guys have all watched how many games Kiffin has blown with stupid calls!

He should have beaten Bama over and over but idiotic play calling and going for it on 4th cut his throat.

Ole Miss can have him. And true............what has he won??

Kiffin isn’t that good. He hasn’t accomplished shite at any of the schools. He’s won games he shouldn’t and lost games he shouldn’t. No conference or NC.

That's true. But if the market lends itself to Kiffen getting $13M per season, he'll get it. Not because Sexton is a jerk. Because college football fans (and donors) are desperate for success.

PSU just fired their HC, who had them a drive away from the NC game last year, because they want better results. Florida just fired their coach. They aren't looking for someone who can lead them to 9-3 seasons. They want someone who can have them in the CFP every year.

The question then becomes who in the marketplace can guarantee the level of success the fans/donors are demanding? Smart? Day? Lanning? There are literally only 3 active HCs who have won a national championship (Day, Dabo, Smart). With Clemson regressing is Dabo good enough to give PSU what they want? Does anyone really think Day or Smart would leave their current jobs?

So that means ANY OTHER coach any school hires can't say he can deliver a NC...because he's never done it. Kiffin may be as good as any other choice available. He currently makes $9M per year. That means, presumably, someone will have to offer him more, maybe much more, to leave Ole Miss. On the flip-side, Ole Miss is unlikely to let him just walk away.

So what happens?: Florida offers $10M, Ole Miss offers $11M. The Florida AD is expected to deliver a championship caliber HC. So the donors tell him to offer $12M. Now the OM donors are pissed. They don't want their HC to leave. Do they offer $13M? Or say "no mas" and accept the current level of success may go down?

These guys aren't getting these massive contracts because they are politely asking for it. They are getting them because fans and donors are DESPERATE
