17 year old Hunter in Bernice killed by lighting strike

Near where we hunt. Terrible. Third hunting death to lighting this year to go with the Colorado elk hunters. Just awful

I sat through a terrible thunderstorm in a deer stand once, and actually saw a deer moving in that shite. Lightning hit WAY too close for comfort multiple times.
I will not do it again. Probably the most scared I’ve ever been.

I’ve always said being in a field is so much scarier than being on open water in lighting. I guess it’s the boat moving and the fact you can see so much other open water you think it won’t hit me. But man when you are in a field with lighting you just feel you are 100% getting hit

5th this year, two hunters along with their two dogs were killed last month in Florida.
Terrible though. I can only hope that people take a better respect for weather out of all this.

How unbelievably tragic.
Should be a great lesson for all of us because there seems to be way too many lightning strikes, killing hunters out in the wild.
If there is thunder and lightning, it’s time to go in.

Just awful to hear. Lightning safety is no joke. Get out of the trees as soon as you hear thunder. You can get hit miles away from a storm.
Most scared Ive ever been in my life was when a storm popped up over top of me just east of Lake Charles near Chennault while I was out doing some field work for a job. I was a long ways from my car, and it was nothing but open prairie. I've never been under an artillery barrage, but I imagine it's something close to that. Just hunkered down in a ditch, doing the lightning safety crouch, and not knowing if you're going to take a hit or not. shite was popping all around me, and I was praying to any god that would listen. I was there for maybe 30 minutes, but it felt like an eternity.
I've also been caught in the woods, and while terrifying, the trees offer some psychological support, even though you're in just as much danger as out in the open. I found a creek bed and got up close to to an embankment and rode it out.

Was duck hunting out on a lake and another blinds boat came untied and called us for help. The wind was pounding out of the south then all of a sudden it changed to the north with a front moving in. One of us jumped in our boat to give chase to the untethered boat. Just as he caught the boat and returned it to their blind, here comes a squall. They high tail it to a boat house, and we were stuck in a lightning storm 6ft high and the tallest structure within a 1/4 mile. Ducks flying around but couldn't shoot because we had no boat. Scary shite for sure.

About 50 people in the US die from lightning every year. Single digit deaths per year from venemous snakes.

There was a guy from Ruston (duck hunting) many years back that got struck in the little metal ball on his cap, went down, hit his rubber boots and bounced out where it came from.
Doctors said he would have died if not for the boots.
It still messed him up pretty bad.

Guy I went to HS with got struck while walking back from the stand when the weather turned bad. He lived and said he had no memory whatsoever of being struck. He woke up flat on his back and the only thing he said he remembered was that his eyes were full of rain water.
The lightning blew out the end of his boot and left a pretty big hole. He saved the boot and showed it to all of us.
Scary stuff.

Damn. That's terrible. I'm sure he was thinking he was in the safest place inside of a structure than out in the open when the storm came through.
