I know this isn’t exactly breaking news, but LSU is fricked. Firing Kelly and his staff would be extremely expensive, alongside the money spent on NIL/recruiting network for the next regime, not even to mention their salaries. For everyone talking about A&M and Penn state firing their coaches; A&M is SIGNIFICANTLY wealthier than LSU, just the bottom line. Penn State signed a huge deal with adidas that allowed them to allocate money towards Franklin’s firing. So LSU is most definitely stuck with Kelly for the rest of this season and a good amount of next year unless he takes a restructured contract. Investment in football ops will take a dip from the donors this offseason due to the poor ROI from this years offseason acquisitions, and even if Kelly does fire Sloan, does the university want to give him a large amount of money to hire a new OC if Kelly is going to be gone 1-2 more years after that? A lot of this is uncharted territory for LSU, but none of it is good.

I’m usually the “step back from the ledge” guy, but this shite is genuinely bleak. We spent a significant sum of money on this team and they are just awful. shite ain’t good baw

We’re stuck with Kelly fans calling for a firing are delusional look at that fricking contract. We can either hope one of two things : Kelly fires Sloan and actually puts together a competent staff or Kelly turns this season around and does something he hasn’t proven he can do yet at lsu : beat good teams on the road (bama and Oklahoma )

The last thing LSU athletics can afford is the football program becoming irrelevant nationally.

It’s the absolute cash cow for all of the programs and even though the SEC and TV contract money will remain intact, if the donor well dried up due to apathy, we’re in a world of hurt.

Once the writing is on the wall, you have to pull the trigger. $60 million in buyouts is a lot, but in revenue terms, it’s less than a fiscal year. If you go another 3-4 years to save on a buyout and the results don’t change, you’ll actually lose more money.

Not to mention the transfers are gone next year which is pretty much most of your defense. How many will transfer(Pickett?)with rumblings this ship is sinking? This is setting up to be a real shite-show BK created himself.

I heard we will have exactly ONE returning starter on Defense from the post game shows yesterday.

So, guess what? We will have to spend a lot of money to just have a average defense. We put all our eggs in the basket this year with Nussmeier coming back and spending all that money on defense.

We will need a good QB in the portal (more money), unless MVB is the guy. But, they don't even give him a chance this year to at least gain a little bit of experience.

We will probably have to recycle some WR's - more money.

As for running backs, it is sad that we will probably have to rely on the judicial system to see what we have there.

We could be genuinely fricked, as you say.

They arent awful. They lost on the road to top 15 teams by one possession. With 5 starters out, Vandy was coming off a bye.

A&M is known for making hasty decisions with their cash, I'm not all that worried. Watch, they'll probably extend Elko before the bowl game this year.

It's not as dire. We'll be stuck with Kelly another year and then when he gets the boot we'll fire up again.

About six months ago they tried to pass a law so the college players wouldn't have to pay taxes. Imagine the ridicule if that had happened.

You're just going to have to get used to having an average football team for the next several years. LSU is in the equiv of cap hell and the money simply doesn't exist to get out of it.

You don't have to have the most expensive roster to make the playoffs. What LSU needs are developers as opposed to recruiters and a coach who is less CEO type that the players can relate to and is hungry. Lost of big name programs have vastly different approaches to hiring coaches. We went for a big splash accomplished coach with a reputation for never winning big times meanwhile other schools like Ohio State and Oregon took guts that had never been head coaches. It's gamble and I hope the next coach is a young up and comer like John Sumrall at Tulane or something. It's a risk either approach you take. I think we have Kelly for 1 more year with a new offensive staff. My hope is we go 6-6 and further accelerate the hate and pain to force a chance. The good news is that with the landscape of college football and the portal you don't have to be down for long
