Once the writing is on the wall, you have to pull the trigger. $60 million in buyouts is a lot, but in revenue terms, it’s less than a fiscal year. If you go another 3-4 years to save on a buyout and the results don’t change, you’ll actually lose more money.

This. A million times over.

They arent awful. They lost on the road to top 15 teams by one possession. With 5 starters out, Vandy was coming off a bye.

Didn’t watch the game, huh?

We’re stuck with Kelly fans calling for a firing are delusional look at that fricking contract. We can either hope one of two things : Kelly fires Sloan and actually puts together a competent staff or Kelly turns this season around and does something he hasn’t proven he can do yet at lsu : beat good teams on the road (bama and Oklahoma )

We have a Culture problem at LSU. That doesn’t get fixed by firing coordinators. It won’t get fixed this season. There is only one way to fix a culture problem, you have to fire the top guy and start from scratch.

Until Kelly is fired, LSU will continue to be a mess.

The last thing LSU athletics can afford is the football program becoming irrelevant nationally.

It’s the absolute cash cow for all of the programs and even though the SEC and TV contract money will remain intact, if the donor well dried up due to apathy, we’re in a world of hurt.

TV revenue is shared, so it only drops when the entire SEC tumbles. The donors are indeed the concern. A lot of the big-dollar guys are die-hards and won't be deterred by a few bad seasons. More than two or three, though, could be detrimental.

Kelly's buyout, like most coaches, is paid out monthly, just like it would be if he were still here. The added cost is the new coach and staff.

LSU can afford that, despite what folks may think. And if they start winning championships, merch revenue will increase significantly

The administration has to find a way to buyout his contract and then you get a young up and comer on a cheap 1-2 year deal if things don’t work out. You know we’ll be im rebuild next year, but at this point anything is better than continuing the ride with Kelly. The ceiling has been shown to us.

Yeah bud, we wouldn't lose the SEC/TV money, however I am not convinced the big money donors wouldn't hold on to their wallets if they see a sinking ship - and then jump back onboard the next ship. But they have the ear of the AD, so those thoughts should be known by Woody.

Yeah, that's pretty much my point. The simple thought is that "we can't afford it" (buyout), but really there is a demarc where you can't afford not to - but that escapes a lot of people.

My suggestion in this new era of college football is to follow the example of the players. Just start caring less and fill your Saturdays with other things and hobbies.

In modern college football, you’ll have to spend a ton of money every year Every year is a new team so just could you spend money this year and it didn’t work out doesn’t mean you don’t spend money next year you know if you don’t spend money you have no chance it’s time to get rid of BK and let someone else run the show

I did. I watched the mercy knee by Vandy that kept it from being a 14 pt loss and saw that LSU was in fact awful.

Tell Todd Graves that Canes can have 80 percent of concession stands in Tiger Stadium and keep every dollar from every one of those stalls for ten years if he will stroke a check now for buyout and new staff. shite he would probably get most of the money back.

I don’t know what you are smoking but you truly believe someone would take a HC position at LSU for 1-2 years on the cheap? That should really help him recruit. In today’s game at this level, it’s $100M or nothing. Kelly lost two games this year on the road in the SEC to two ranked teams with the last possession and a chance to win and he’s being roasted. What agent would let a coach accept a deal on the cheap in such an environment? This board is delusional. Hell, good coordinators are making $2m now. No, LSU does not have FU money to throw at this and quite frankly there are no coaches coming under that scenario.

It will be a 5 year rebuild starting next year, IMO

We are losing a shite load of good players next year....and NIL donors will be cautious next go-round!

College football has become like the NFL without a salary cap. Think back to the 80s and early 90s and who was buying championships. Although you had revenue sharing, some billionaire owners would lose money to win. Same in the modern college football except there are no long term player contracts, just year to year.
