My question is why do you think a shutdown is bad considering the disgusting rubber stamping of debt that we have had the past 15 years?

Senate needs 60 votes to end debate on CR. There are currently not 60 votes in the senate to do that.

Because the senate is subject to a filibuster which requires 60 votes to advance rather than majority. Republicans have 53 seats in senate. Democrats (in the senate) blocked the bill congress passed.

Both sides are pointing the finger at each other for blame, obviously.

Whats fricking retarded as the Senate decided to frick off until October 21st.

Do you even Civics......

in the house, which has passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government for a few months more. R's have a slim majority, but unified enough to get the 50%+1 vote required to pass the bill

In the senate, Rs have the majority, but with Senate rules, they havnet had the opportunity to vote on the house CR. This is because senate rules require 60 votes to end debate before voting. This is called the filibuster. since Rs only have 53/47 they canned gett he 60 votes needed to end debate to call for the vote to pass the CR.

Because they are scared of their own shadow and think like losers. Get rid of the filibuster, its unconstitutional, and grow a pair. Our system is not designed to work with this quasi super majority in the Senate to get anything done.

A simple majority doesn't work in this instance. Not sure why people are being d*cks to you Not everyone knows how it works.

If you haven't figured it out by now, you should probably give up following politics

No doubt. I don’t keep up with politics. And also I never stated I agreed or disagreed with the shutdown. Was simply asking a question.

The Senate requires 60 votes to pass legislation, including the CR that will fund the government.

All Democrats and Rand have voted against. So, there are only 53 Republicans voting Yay. 7 or 8 Democrats can end this today.
