Streaming on Netflix Oct 24th, in theatres now. Katheryn Bigelow film with Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jason Clarke. Looks like it might be pretty good. Anyone looking forward to this?

Early reviews have been mixed but I’ll definitely be watching.

I recently read Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen and this looks pretty similar. It’s not an adaptation because Denis Villeneuve is planning to do it someday.

I found her book an attempt to prey on fear of people that know nothing about the history of nuclear weapons. I love reading about that subject, but was immediately turned off by her writing.

I've read Surprise, Kill, Vanish and Phenomena by her, and I really enjoyed both.

That’s actually good to hear because I’m probably one of those people. My father was in the military so I was trying to get him to read it to poke holes in her story.

I wouldn’t say it scared me but I did watch Dr. Strangelove soon after to balance out the doom and gloom.

Love that movie, it is so funny. General Buck Turgidson is so out of control and hellbent on nuclear war. I think he was partially modeled after General Curtis Lemay who in real life was probably as outlandish.

It’s out today.
About 30 minutes into it and I think Netflix hit the mark with this one.

***SPOILERS***

Movie was good. Thoroughly enjoyed it. But I can’t stand movies with open endings. WTF happened? Did we bomb anyone? Outside of that. No complaints. Liked how it portrayed it from different perspectives.

Possible Spoilers

I figured that’s how it was going to end up going in, I’m pretty sure in the real world someone is going to be on the other end of hell on Earth. I liked that the 3 different acts all focused on the same time frame just with the different characters. I think Netflix did a good job with this one.

ICBM is launched from Western Pacific and is targeted for continental USA. Pretty good cast, and interesting way of telling a story from multiple parts of the situation.

But damn, there’s an array of fumbling & bumbling by key players that’s super annoying to watch. Indecisiveness, bad phone connections, ridiculous background noises, sick children, and about five or six other trivial encounters that needlessly distract people at the worst time.

Just hope our defenses aren’t as broken or incompetent as depicted.

Follow up.

So the President wasn't on facetime, but the assistant deputy guy running around in public and through check points while on a super important (and secure?) call was. Sure, whatever. That's how they worked the reveal at the end, I suppose. I thought the President was incapacitated or something, then he sounded all out of breath and tired... was it Joe Biden? No, but he did seem like he was about to collapse a few times. Weird way to portray him.

About a 30 minute segment of time retold 3x from different points of view. Not entirely unique, but OK.

And yet no conclusion, which is the worst mystery box BS there is.

"sometimes they do that" WTF? Really? That's how ICBMs work? Or don't work?

I gave this one, despite the cast and some damn good drama, a thumbs down. Didn't care for it.

As it just dropped, I'll use this - who knew we could do this? LOL

Spoiler:
i hated that we only sent up 2 missiles to get one, but after that, there was no Plan B to intercept. Also, hoping a ICBM is a 'dud' on impact, is beyond absurd. Even if a country fired a 'dud' at a major city, that's still grounds for retaliation.

Dumb writing.
