The White House budget office vowed to continue laying off government agency workers, but pay military members and federal law enforcement, signaling the Trump administration is digging in as the US shutdown entered into its 14th day with no resolution in sight.

quote:

“OMB is making every preparation to batten down the hatches and ride out the Democrats’ intransigence,” the Office of Management and Budget posted on social media on Tuesday. “Pay the troops, pay law enforcement, continue the RIFs, and wait.”

The White House budget office issued a first round of reductions in force, or RIFs, on Friday, terminating more than 4,000 federal workers, escalating the standoff with Democrats.

The shutdown hasn’t affected me one iota. Let it ride and cut the waste.

Dems are only furthering their own demise. Are they just throwing stones on their way out? I don’t understand their motivation.

Yes. I hope they fire as many people as possible. It's not personal. We just don't need this covert welfare program.

Because they think that they've changed the narrative to one about health care and not about the fact that they are responsible for shutting the government down. And if they can convince swing voters that that is the case, then it is a winning argument for them.

It all comes down to messaging, and which side can get their message to the swing voters. And keep in mind that they live in a bubble, so the fact that MSM is backing them on this then it is easy to see why they are continuing down this path.

This was always the plan even if the shutdown never happened. They are using the shutdown to throw it back on the Dems.

Well it ain’t like the hard left can hate Trump any more - MAGA can love him more and more by him sticking to his guns.

And yet you probably cheered at the trillion dollar budget the admin passed. This place never ceases to amaze.

If you want to find out if the government is shut down, drive 100 MPH down 55 between Jackson and Baton Rouge.

Laid off fed workers are clogging employment lanes for private industry.

They'll dominate admin hiring over the next couple of years, jobs will be hard to come by.

You have to love the messages from both sides:

Dems, you are cutting millions off health care, none of them are illegal (well biden waiving a wand when they come over and calling them refugees, temporary, etc does not change the fact they illegally entered the country).

Republicans, well the govt is shut down and we can no longer afford these people so we gotta fire them (as if the govt has not been borrowing money for the past 50 years to keep operating).

You're arguing with the person you imagined, not the one who posted.

I think the fed payroll needs trimmed by a lot, just pointing out that it will disrupt private industry admin employment for a while.

It will get serious on 31 Oct. Since 1 Nov falls in Sat all the federal monthly payments happen on Fri. Retired military. Welfare. SS. All the ones who get a monthly payment will not get paid. I can’t recall all of them but its millions of people

Nah. Don't change the fricking rules. Pay none of them as it is intended. Don't give the useless fricking Congress an out. The collective ineptitude of Congress is why we are here. Allowing it to pay the troops and law enforcement does nothing but take the pressure off of them.

Keep it shut down. Pay no one. Let us see who lasts.
