Muffled hearing and tinnitus from gunshot

Last Sunday, I went AR shooting with a group of guys. We had just moved to a new location 400 yards from the steel target when one guy decided to discharge his rifle without checking to see if anyone was wearing hearing protection. Of course, I hadn’t put mine on yet because everyone was still unloading their gear from the back of the truck. Well, I was the closest when the round fired off (about 4 feet), and it was deafening. Everyone else was further away and fine.
For the past week I’ve had muffled hearing and ringing non stop. I can deal with the tinnitus, but it’s the hearing loss that has me worried. If you take your hands and cup them over your ears, that’s what it sounds like. I feel built up pressure in both my ears such as when you swim too deep or drive in the mountains, yet the pressure remains. I can’t listen to the radio over a low volume due to the pain. Noises over a simple inside voice are irritating-especially crinkling a WalMart bag or a bag of chips. I started wearing earplugs hoping to give my ears more time to heal other than just at night. Remind you, all this was because of a single rifle round.
Do any of you have any experiences of what I can expect moving forward? I talked to a few ex-military guys who said the same thing happened to them. It took two weeks before their hearing was back to normal, but they said I’ll be fine. I’m getting worried that this’ll take much longer or permanent because I don’t think it has improved since Monday. This is a miserable feeling.
I’m taking turmeric, zinc, and vitamin C because I read those help with healing after inflammation.
Thanks.

Some a-hole snapped one of those pop snapper things you get at fireworks stands pretty much in my ear and it took a few months to get right. Symptoms were what you described.

Mines permanent. I had sudden hearing loss with tinnitus in 2018 ish. Just woke up with it. Prob ibuprofen related since I was taking a shite load prior to my hip replacement.

If you had good hearing before this it should come back slowly. If it doesn't fully return after a month or two then you are probably stuck with what you have. Just remember as you get older you may become more susceptible to hearing loss or ringing in the ears.
ETA And yeah, I've got permanent ringing also, It takes a lot to get used to.

See an ENT this week, make sure you mention you have sudden hearing loss, and get a hearing test. Steroids can help if given soon after acoustic trauma.

Hearing issues suck. I'm taking an infusion for Thyroid Eye Disease that has a strong propensity to damage hearing (for me, it is how much hearing loss for better eyesight). The ringing is awful, and then I developed a rare condition where when I shake my head, a bell like sounds rings in my left ear. But, I'm 1/2 way through the infusions and have only lost about 3% of my hearing and my eyes are much better. I've had TED for 20+ years, and I had almost no side to side eye movement. Now, I have some. Up and down movement is better but a ton of nstagmus gets me when I move the yes up and down.

My ent thinks I'm insane because I passed the hearing test with flying colors, but my tinitus is horrendous at times.

Have you discovered any temporary remedies?

There's really nothing except giving it time.
It'll improve.
Next time wear ear protection for your baby ears

Give it time and set up an appt with ent.
Let that guy know he's an a-hole too.

As long as you can hear this video, you should be fine. You can hear it, right?

Had a car stereo do similar. A click but I thought the amps flaked for whatever reason. Shut it down and asked if it cut out and folks were like nope. About 3db less in that ear on the hearing tests.

That first month or so is brutal and really, really wears on you.
Mine started when I had a bout of vertigo that lasted for a week or so. I was kicked back in my recliner getting a nap. I woke up and when I kicked the footrest down and sat up the whole world felt like it spun off its axis and almost threw me in the floor. It was like a switch immediately flipped and the ringing started. That was going on three years ago. I haven't had any further vertigo issues after that bout went away, but the ringing remains. Well, it is more like a constant high pitch, the highest pitch you can imagine, *teeeeeeeeeeeeeee*......it fades to the background most of the time now, but never goes away.
