The Aaron Boone Playoff Script Never Changes

The New York Yankees’ season was always going to end this way. That’s because every New York Yankees season of this era ends this way, spiritually speaking. From the moment Aaron Boone succeeded Joe Girardi as Yankees manager in December 2017, he’s done two things: win consistently during the regular season and lose consistently during the playoffs.
quote:
“It’s hard to win the World Series,” Boone said after the Yankees were eliminated. “I’ve been chasing it my whole life.”
quote:
There’s plenty of blame to go around. What’s new with this loss, though, is less important than what’s familiar. Eight seasons in, this is the defining experience of Boone’s tenure. His lineups go cold in October. His defense is burned by simple mistakes. And his decision-making falters in the biggest moments.
Boone came to the postseason to chew bubblegum and face-plant. And he’s all out of bubblegum.

I thought that Yankee line up would be the key to victory for them.

I think Boone did a wondergul job. Wish the astros had him.

I have been saying this for most of these 8 years---their roster is not built for October baseball. They are good enough during the regular season to go on a tear and put up a lot of runs, but come post-season, they can be an easy lineup to pitch to if you execute your pitches. I watched the Astros do it in several post season series against them. I am not sure you can put it all on Boone.

Since 2017, the Yankees have had one season where they weren't in the bottom half of the league in strikeouts per game as an offense. That was 2024 and they went to the World Series.
It is not hard to figure out what wins in the postseason. The Blue Jays struck out the least in baseball this season. That is what wins in the postseason and it's been that way the last 8-10 seasons if you look at the numbers. Putting the ball in play and manufacturing runs has to be a part of your offense, along with the occasional 3-run homer.
Judge strikes out a lot but he's also a historically elite slugger. They have to surround him in the lineup with other players that don't strike out a lot or else they will never win anything.

How does Boone still have a job? His only claim to fame is that he is Bucky Dent II.

Because he doesn’t push back on the front office when they tell him what to do.
Boone is not a great manager, but hes also not the problem.
The organization needs a complete reset.
Problem is hank isnt his dad, george made his money in shipping, hank makes his money from the yankees. As long as they are profitable, he doesnt care about the outcome.

This is one of the downfalls of having a FO that is analytics dependant. They also like to micromanage.

Yep; Hank needs to grow a spine.

The Yankees not winning a World Series in the last 15 years is 100% on Cashman and Steinbrenner.
