The shame of it is that it was a vital word. We used to be able to use it to mean “as bizarre as this sounds, it actually happened”. But now idiots have rendered the word meaningless.

‘Literally’ should only be used to distinguish between something that would normally be considered metaphorically but in this case was factual / actual.
