Simpkins vs Ruiz

Watching Simpkins play vs Ruiz, what strikes me as his biggest advantage over Ruiz is that his hands are incredibly violent and he rarely seems to be off balance. Ruiz is obviously the superior athlete, but he seems to completely miss with his hands a few times a week.

He can flip his hips real well.
That's not an easy thing to do every time.
A lot of times. That's how guys get overpowered.
I mean like baldy was saying I'm sure there was some plays that he missed on but that sure as hell is encouraging in those clips.

Simpkins’ PFF pass blocking grade was 0.0. First time I’ve ever seen that. Six pressures allowed and a penalty. Tough assignment
67.3 in the run game
I’m hopeful but let’s stay grounded on the kid

difference is a 6 yr veteran making 11 million a yr vs an undrafted rookie doing similar and maybe better things on the field.

But there is room for improvement.
The Giants D-Line is arguably the best in the league.

Not surprised. He got spun a few times and knocked backwards almost on his arse another.
Still better than Ruiz though!

I'm not sure how that's even possible?

Our depth is a huge issue so even if he can’t unseat Ruiz, having a serviceable backup is nice

The key is no sacks, could we say that about Ruiz ?

Ruiz gets a credit boost for blocking his own o lineman

I think the 0.0 is an error

Some of those plays in the clip from Baldy were passes. This has to be an error.

Though bolstering the performance on the line will be a point of emphasis as Rattler was under pressure for 38.7% of his dropbacks, per Pro Football Focus. Next Gen Stats charts the quarterback under pressure for 54.5% of his dropbacks because the analytics sites qualify pressures differently. In either case, it’s more than what you’d want for a young quarterback, even though he managed it well.
I like Simpkins in a backup role. To get that out of a udfa is a win.
The real question is Davon godchaux. He looks absolutely done and the saints gave him an extra 2 years on his deal.

6 pressures in a one game is bad. Thats only 6 of the 35 pass snaps that they graded.
Ruiz had allowed 5 pressures in four game
McCoy has allowed 2 all season

My left nut should start over Ruiz

I guess they were onto something in drafting for Broughton

The coaches will tell you who is better. Simpkins will have ample run to take the job
Simpkins is PFF’s 100th ranked guard out of 104. His 12 pressures allowed are bottom 10 for guards and he’s barely played. I would take your word he’s better but your track record is below average

It is obvious he is not a better guard, as his pass blocking is terrible. But he fits more of the mold of a roadgrader with his violent blocking. Ruiz is more of an athletic guy, as seen last year with him running down Kamara on the screen in Dallas.

I believe they gave godchaux the deal right when they traded for him.
His deal isn't as bad as I thought. 2 for 11 with 7.5 guaranteed.
His cap hits are 2mil-25. 7mil-2026. 2mil-2027(dummy yr)
