Authorities in Indianapolis have announced at a press conference that former NFL quarterback and Fox analyst Mark Sanchez now also faces a Level 5 felony battery charge, which carries a 1- to 6- year sentence.

Former NFL QB Mark Sanchez was stabbed last night in Indianapolis and is currently in the hospital with critical injuries, TMZ Sports has learned.

Police received a call around 12:30 AM Saturday morning to a street in downtown Indianapolis for two injured people ... and one of the people was the former first-round draft pick.

We're told Sanchez was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

It's unclear what led to the violent incident.

ETA: Sanchez has been arrested

Indianapolis police now say they have arrested FOX analyst Mark Sanchez while he was at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication.

But now more intriguing details are emerging, with Fox59 reporting - via a source - that Sanchez, 39, was doing 'wind sprints' in the alleyway shortly before the violent altercation occurred.

Wind sprints are a form of high-intensity interval training that involve short bursts of maximum effort sprinting, followed by a period of rest - something that Sanchez will have likely been familiar with during his career as a top-level professional athlete.

It is also claimed that the ex-QB wasn't cooperative with responding police officers at the scene near Loughmiller's Pub & Eatery in Indianapolis.

We can now report what is stated in the police narrative from last night’s stabbing involving former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez.

According to the police narrative we received from sources Sanchez was not cooperative with police when they first arrived on scene.

Another man listed as the victim in the police report told police he was delivering food when Sanchez told him he needed to move and couldn’t park where he was.

That man told police Sanchez started threatening and following him and then attacked him.

The man said he first tried to pepper spray Sanchez but it didn’t work. He said it was at that that time he defended himself with a knife. Police noted the man had a significant injury to his face.

Sanchez was taken to the hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery. @FOX59

It is important to note that Sanchez has not been interviewed yet!!!!

Damn. That’s terrible. Hope he pulls through.
Although his career floundered after a couple of years in the NFL, he really seems to be a good guy

That’s pretty random. Most of downtown Indy is really safe. I traveled there for work a ton. Always walked around downtown at night to dinner and bars. Never felt unsafe

I doubt it.

more likely caused by a combination of a violent felon with multiple priors arrests and a district judge who believes in racial justice.

Doesn't have to be that big if he caught Sanchez off guard.

True.

But how could you get clipped when you have a posse around you?

No posse?? Sanchez just got snook?

Hard to believe.
