My employer is constantly bragging about how much they donate to suicide prevention, wounded warrior, some local high school, hispanic engineers, whatever. Do people value these things when trying to decide where to work or am I just a dick because I don't care?
It's even worse when they ask me for money - donate to united way, single moms, etc. I hate when my employer asks me for money at work.

Yeh, I used to work for the large accounting firm in BR that used to pressure employees into donations. Bunch of grifters.

I though it was a nice touch years ago when our company was asking for concessions from all employees to avoid bankruptcy while still contributing millions per year to noble causes like the Chicago Ballet

I hate when they ask.

I do actually donate to veteran groups that i know are legit that do things like support spouses of KIA warriors and veteran suicide.

So, when they aggravate me by asking for the pledge or donation crap, i pull that stuff up and say, this is what i donate to so im good.

Cause normally, its something that they get something in return for by having people donate and im not playing that game

The most annoying is when you check out at Walmart/Lowes/Walgreens, you are being asked by these multibillion corporations to donate. Give me my receipt and frick off.

I deal with it a lot at work and I call it moral armor. You're almost expected by the public to do something these days. I prefer donating food, raffle prizes, etc to local groups and schools. That being said, the nature of my business will bring the ire of some Karen. I've been given sponsorship money back over a mother complaining only to see that woman not replace any of the money we offered. It makes you wonder why the hell do you even bother

The company I work for is based in Massachusetts and the donations reflect that. They do provide employees with "credits" that you can use to donate to a list of "approved" organizations. You will find some non-political organizations on the list, but most tilt in a direction that's not surprising for a Massachusetts's based executive staff.

It's not something I lose sleep over, but from talking to others, those with a more conservative outlook keep that on the downlow.

I world say 99% of people don't factor this into their equation when deciding where to work.

So I would say you are normal

No. In fact it pisses me off. That money should go to people who are working for the company. No one gives a shite if your employer gives money to some NGO or charity.

I don't care they donate to others.

Pisses me off they ask for United Way donations from me to put their name on it, then tell me to frick off when I ask for the same donation to my non-profit that stays in the community.

Bro come on. It’s called a fair share. It’s fair. Do it. Cmon do the fair share. Look at this cool keychain you get. It’s so worth it. Do it. It’s anonymous. No it’s not considered during bonuses or promotions we swear.

No, it’s all for marketing. I’ll go plant a tree to get out of the office for a couple hours. Not gonna donate my own coin for such silliness, however.

I never cared who or what they donated to. Occasionally I would donate to something and would ask if they matched. My employer matched a tone of donations. They also paid for charity work in the community like painting schools and the like.

One of the coolest they did was sponsor a day for women and children at a women’s shelter with tours and lunch included. They also repainted and donated furniture, toys and other stuff to the shelter. They paid for all the supplies and employees got for paid for helping.

I wish my employer would stop donating to liberal causes.

No…but that is not the point. The point is public perception of your corporation.

I will never understand the hold that United Way has over corporate America. I have seen people threatened with termination if they didn’t contribute to united way.

I’ll agree it’s annoying to be hit up while checking out, but there are a lot of misconceptions with this.

The business cannot claim any of those donations as their own. It’s highly illegal and they have zero tax benefit for doing them.

They do them because it’s a way to virtue signal without them actually doing anything.
